A student was away today because she was becoming Canadian at a citizenship ceremony. That sparked an interesting discussion about anthems, patriotism, and identity.

We hear different versions of O Canada as part of our morning announcements. Here’s one of our favourites.

I’m completely & utterly exhausted — mentally, emotionally, & physically — if I don’t take a #MentalHealth day off soon, I run the risk of doing something devastating. 😭

A wise Canadian politician - one of the few and far between.
“Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege.”

In general, companies that “privatize profits and socialize costs” spend a fraction of the $profit to hide the much bigger $costs.

Tobacco giants knew their products caused cancer.

Oil companies knew their products cause climate change.

Social media companies know their products facilitate abuse of minors

Seeing a pattern? It’s not a few bad actors it’s a feature of a system that rewards profit at any cost
Imagine knowing your platform was a playground for predators, fueling teen depression, eating disorders, and suicide and deciding the best course of action was… absolutely nothing. Meta didn’t just “miss” anything.

I’m atching seasons 1-4 of #StrangerThings with my teen (he’s already seen them all) in anticipation of season 5; OMG so weird, gory and gross.. I’m not really into season 3. It totally looked like a kid show but it is so not - it gets worse with each season?
