White people need to look at their own family trees and see how quickly you find ancestors from an ethnic group who were seen as poor, stupid, smelly, primitive, too many kids, won't learn English. Everyone whose ancestors were mistreated for their ancestry should stand with immigrants.
ambivalentricky.bsky.social
Irish and Italian Americans (and Jews obv) should hopefully be aware of how their ancestors were seen up until about the 1960s. But a lot of people with German (especially German!), Hungarian, Slavic etc ancestors don't know how much their immigrant ancestors were considered un-American invaders.

We need to start saying more about white nationalist Trump allies's strengthening commitment to the idea of "legacy Americans," which is identical to 19c attacks on Catholic immigrants. Good, let's draw the line: everyone whose family got here after the Civil War should be on the non-legacy team.

I get the sense that Chicago might be a center of Cathoic resistance to ICE. Both because Pope Leo has signaled his support for protests, but also because there are a shitload of Bog Irish and Italian Catholics who can be called on to protest.

Counterpoint: if you work for ICE, there are things you can do that are smarter than quitting. People on the inside of evil organizations who oppose their mission are in many ways more valuable than protesters on the street.

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

I went to a few things there too but in 2025, reality must defer to perceptions
ambivalentricky.bsky.social
It's telling that the Tr_mp admin memo says "perception of segregation," conceding that they're not actually segregated, and then refers to them as "segregated" spaces. And "perception of segregation" means the subjectivity of racist white people holds *everyone else* hostage even other white people

One of the most exciting things modern Linux has is, of course, games.

There are games on Linux, such as Spreadsheet and Calculator and Screensaver. There is even a game called Terminal but no one has ever beat it.

kinda proud of this checkmate #chess
chessboard. not good enough at chess notation to describe position in words

Which extended to missing the part where two guys in Rage are not white.

Yes, because the US was leaning that way anyway, but that wouldn't have been an option for Germany, I don't think

Middle-aged, really. Gen X white men had a special inability to detect politics in all of the pop culture they enjoyed in their youth.

I was reading this without my glasses and thought it was a lineup for a music festival

after careful study, I believe only people born between 1975 and 1995 should be allowed to use the internet

Seems too deeply careerist to be much of a music guy. There's something about dating your employment as a novelist to the month you were born that says "I don't own a lot of albums"
ambivalentricky.bsky.social
same with being a hip hop head except that what you're saying to yourself in the shower is "scar on my face but I'm not Al Pacino" over and over again trying to remember what song it's from

It's a proud white Californian tradition to pronounce Spanish names in a maximally Anglo way, no?

In LA you could tell a recent arrival if they didn't know "Los Feliz" was pronounced "Loss Feelus"

Using recruit violations to knock down a coach's buyout has become a standard practice. If Belichick cannot find a landing spot to trigger his own buyout, he’s expected to accept a greatly reduced, compromised rate

Recruited them to choose UNC over other colleges to play football only to ensure them a disastrous year on the field and probably no progress as players
