Thank you! Will read. I read his book “The information” some years ago and it influenced me greatly.
For years I did not know what discipline my thesis belongs to. I figured out late that my methods are used mainly from transportation scholars but in my view they can be used for many other problems.
In academia it is. It took me around two years to figure out that this was uncommon.
I guess it happened bc I had years of work behind me where I just tried to do that. I thought that we all try to solve things and we throw at them all our ideas, tools, etc
For me the boundaries between disciplines are permeable and even more I find it fascinating to figure out how others frame problems or go around solving them.
In this case it tells a lot about how academia works but I was clueless. I started my inquiry with the probl I wanted to solve. This is v uncommon. People often start w the literature & methods of a discipline. You are examined for contribution to a discipline => can’t escape the classification

i made a template you can use to think about what "frame/negation/kirby" looks like for other issues.
For example:

Frame: DOGE is a govt efficiency project to save $

Negation: Actually it made things less efficient and cost $

Kirby: DOGE was a project to break and privatize federal bureaucracy

"While British culture is largely resilient to pro-Russian propaganda coming direct from Russia, we are far less prepared against influence from the US ... A relationship that once represented a cultural strength for Britain now offers a major indirect vector for Russian reflexive control."

Probably the loveliest thread you will read today, full of beauty and kindness and improvised owl physio
Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Possible causes of your problems. It’s a diagram that (sadly) still seems relevant in 2025, so reposting a year and a bit on.

Persistent stressors that are difficult to manage, such as concerns about affording rent or relying on Medicaid when it’s under threat, leave people in a heightened state, the researcher Courtney Boen tells @rossandersen.bsky.social—“and that erodes the body’s systems.” bit.ly/46nmbaF #TAF25

Even individually, this is so important. I don’t want to debate if “posting is praxis”—but speaking out, even posting, matters more than we think. It reminds each other we’re not alone and helps keep us from the black hole of self-censorship that’s so much harder to escape.
One of the hallmarks of authoritarianism is to terrify people into self-censorship. ABC ending Kimmel’s show is the perfect example of this.

I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

I find the lack of transparency about the UK's involvement with OpenAI's Stargate project to be really very worrying and also cannot see how it provides us with "sovereignty". We appear to just be providing the energy? on.ft.com/4n3W6Vf
