Studying politics in UCD, it was really obvious who was there because they wanted a career in politics and the status that came with it and who wasn’t. I’ve looked at politicians through this lens since. Are they here because they got involved in a cause or for the nice pension.
Some get into politics to make a difference but most are looking for a career path. The first and foremost goal of a political career is to attain power. The second is to hold on to it.

Simon Harris was sending press releases to local papers as a TEENAGER. For him it was never about helping people.
So much of the centrist approach to politics has devolved into "How do we trick people into supporting us like the right has done?" where talking sincerely about policies that might help ordinary people's lives is for naïve schmucks who don't understand the glorious theatre of it all
Actually terrifying how addictive they are. I got addicted after having one of the small disposable lost mary ones at a stag a year back. Scary how potent and dependent they make people.
Great craic at the @loicentral.bsky.social podcast in Rascals last night. Mad to think the leagues top scorer just sitting their telling stories. The league is so accessible.
Wasn’t there a prime time debate on it ahead of the election last year? It’s so stupid.
The amount of people on Facebook who are insisting this was an inside job. The mind boggles.

Baloo doing a fantastic impression of my post Marathon plans. Have you ever seen a cosier dog.
There was a path there for her if she bothered her arse to actually get on the ballot paper. She didn’t and that’s on her and her alone. Waterford Council would have backed her for example had she tried.

Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

Fine Gael's post election analysis
Why in gods name is he on the telly. Made a balls of trying to get a candidate nominated and is still bitter about it.
€154 is still cheaper than a Sky Subscription for the channels including movies and sports so well worth it if that’s the fine.
Does this mean we have dumb beds? Is this why my sleep is so bad?
The same justice system which charges people with terrorist legislation for opposing genocide also allow one of their own to shoot unarmed civilians on the street without consequence. No such thing as British Justice. Only inequality.
Nelson and Jimbo putting the window in is chefs kiss.
Exactly. The presidential election is a skeletons in closets contest. I’m sure he has a lot of good will from Live Aid but good will just isn’t enough.
