Oh man, what a missed opportunity on the teacher’s part! I’m retroactively bummed for your friend

But I had never (that I can recall) heard the original until earlier this year, and I was ASTONISHED at how different it was

I need to watch that again, I think I was too young the first time to appreciate it properly, but I definitely remember how haunting it was hearing that song

Of late it’s assumed a more… personal salience

In DoD-speke, though, it’s used to acknowledge receipt, as “I copy” or “copy all”, and not necessarily in a radio context

Alien first contact where they land a ship in Times Square, emit a field of universal translation, and start talking to the crowd.

Everyone is way more interested in the fact that the aliens are speaking their own language, than that they are aliens.

And immediately fights start breaking out.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

The alien droning on about this historic occasion, to a crowd of unruly new Yorkers who are all way too busy experimenting with the ability to shout "hey fuck you buddy" in all languages simultaneously

Just realized there’s a typo in the alt text, but an entirely apt alternate discription, so fuckit, I’m keeping it 🤣

🎶 Oh sell meeeeee that Mountain Colors, like gramma and grampa used to knit
A triangular wrap in fisherman’s rib stitch made from a discontinued pound-weight skein of merino from Mountain Colors. The base is a deep raspberry red with harvest rainbow zig-sagging splashes

I, uh, may have a slight sock-knitting problem
Five pairs of knitted socks with ends not yet woven in; they are brown-grey, mint with speckles, stripy speckled pink and blue, pink with grey splashes, and harvest rainbow

I promised pics of recent knitting, so incoming

Me to anybody without provocation: “I only ever want a dumb home. My kettle is allowed to talk to the internet because I am a weird little guy with a tea fetish and I don’t care who knows it, but I still want to buy a shotgun”

Are you suuure? No suspiciously changed text? No odd secretions or unexpected motility?

What with the three separate diglot bibles/NT, dual German dictionaries, and three overlapping diglot copies of Rilke’s poetry…

In my defense, much like with yarn, buying books, having books in the stash-I-mean-library, and reading books are three separate interlinked hobbies

At least 134 if we’re counting alternate translations of the same work as separate books, or at least that’s the current tally in my library of the floorTBR

Back on my bullshit, listening to George Crumb’s “Black Angels”, which has the most amazingly fucked-up-looking score I’ve ever seen

Like, my dude was /inspired/ when he was composing this work, and the result is… kinda like House of Leaves but on strings, nausea as sound

Again: it doesn’t fucking matter because the outcome is the exact fucking same

This food fight is predictable and fruitless because it’s about assigning or renouncing of responsibility so people can fucking feel good about themselves

Oh dear, there’s that putting words in my mouth thing again. There’s more to that quote than one line, and it’s a shame you were apparently never taught that, like much of literature and poetry, not everything from the Bard’s pen is literal

You need to stop imagining things I never said to get mad about
