Seeing the visuals of clergy in full regalia and processing while carrying sacred objects, not just reading about it, really slams right into the early indoctrination hindbrain, and seeing that procession halted and turned back activates that “but… you just DON’T DO THAT” appalled response

If you have shared bread and salt, you have a responsibility to each other. You have agreed they get to have the basics of life from your table and hearth, and you agree not to try to kill them

ICE is denying the church’s attempt to provide the hospitality it promised in sacred trust to the people

What’s happening here is a violation of that sacred trust at a fundamental level that undermines how humans have managed to mostly figure out ways to establish peaceful intentions and then make sure those intentions get codified
