So nice to received this Ukrainian Christmas card from the Shevchenko Scientific Society that I am a member of. It has been an honor and pleasure to serve on several of its committees this year including the 2025 Shevchenko Emergency Fellows Fund one that gave 50 fellowships to Ukrainian scholars.

Good morning from @townofamherst.bsky.social. After an unexpected snowfall last evening, it looks like we will have a white Christmas. Wishing everyone peace and joy.

Thanks @bostonglobe.com for the great article on Dr. Brent Emigh, the head of trauma at RI Hospital, who was in charge of the amazing response to the mass casualty shooting event on Dec 13 of Brown University students. Thanks to him & to the staff at RI Hospital www.bostonglobe.com/2025/12/23/b...

A collaborator and close friend from Italy send us these chocolates which we will be enjoying and sharing for weeks. Grateful for friendships across the miles. Happy Holidays!

It is past 11PM in Kyiv, Ukraine and I am getting messages from a professor there whether I would be willing to evaluate faculty candidates. Of course, I agreed. #academicmatters in #wartime

The torrential rains and a day of warmer weather in @townofamherst.bsky.social melted the snow so we hiked the fields of the @umassamherst.bsky.social agricultural station. The produce is now gone. Back to revising an #orms paper, fortified with a latte, on agricultural supply chains.

From the President of Brown University received via email. @hawkeceprof.bsky.social & I will be lighting a candle and joining in a moment of silence at 4:03PM today. #RIP Ella and MukhammadAziz.

It had been such a nightmarish week. Thank goodness that the homeless Brown alum was so observant and provided clues that helped to break the case. So much shock and pain now for the families, friends and academic communities.

Because of this horrible week I wrote the ff. post: Be Kind and Aware as We Mourn annanagurney.blogspot.com/2025/12/be-k...

Yes and I commented on it on LinkedIn! Thank you so much! It was an honor to write the In Memoriam for my friend Dr. Marguerite Frank with the Editor Immanuel Bomze.

Very touched to receive this gift of confections from Ukraine today from an exchange student from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) who has been studying at @umassamherst.bsky.social and is now heading back to Ukraine.

It has been an incredibly difficult, painful week, and one that we will never forget, for all those in the Brown University and MIT communities and beyond. Alma maters help to make us who we are and, hopefully, for the better. Be kind. So many are hurting and trying to understand the unthinkable.

I concur!

It looks like the search is over. Long days ahead.

Felt so good to receive this message from the @isenbergumass.bsky.social Dean Anne P. Massey. Thanks to the anonymous student who acknowledged my support and mentorship. This means a lot to me.

Lovely to receive warm holiday wishes from colleagues in Sweden, Nepal, Italy, Ukraine, Austria, Australia, Canada, and the US, just in the last day or so. Always nice to be remembered. Thank you.

Each year, at this time, I prepare a reflection on the activities of the Associates of the Virtual Center for Supernetworks @isenbergumass.bsky.social. Here is the link to the 2025 one, just posted supernet.isenberg.umass.edu/congratulati... Thanks for the support!

Final exams have been graded except for that of a student who had to leave because of a family medical emergency. I did email him the exam and his solutions are in the mail to me.

This has been a horrific week.

Listening to another press conference on the horrific event this past weekend at my alma mater Brown University. Our hearts go out to all those impacted.

Before starting to grade the final exams in my Transportation and Logistics class @isenbergumass.bsky.social I took a hike with @hawkeceprof.bsky.social to Puffer's Pond in @townofamherst.bsky.social. The waterfall was partially frozen and two were playing hockey on the frozen pond with snow cover.

We met on a flight to DC years ago. We were seated next to each other in row 2 and could not stop talking. This top lawyer from one of the most prestigious firms in NYC every holiday season sends me a card to my @isenbergumass.bsky.social address. The wonderful friends one makes on travels.

We had about 10 deer in our backyard in @townofamherst.bsky.social. @annanagurney.bsky.social and. I saw them nibbling on shrubs next to our home!

What a weekend it has been! Hard to believe that our @umassinforms.bsky.social party @isenbergumass.bsky.social was just on this past Friday. Being part of warm, supportive communities is more important than ever now.
