Quick 🧵 about false joints in stone arches:

Arches, in one sense, are just an answer to the limits of the material: how to bridge large spans with small stones. And when the spans are small or the stones large then you don’t really need to arch. They become a formal device, an aesthetic scheme.

On the Annex FB page I tried to bring the temp down on this issue and, in the comments, offered to run the neighbourhood retail Jane’s Walk again to help boost the businesses that were leery of this change. Currently I am planning two walks, a session each on Oct 25/26. Stay tuned.

If you're around on October 25 or 26, consider a lovely autumn walk that will showcase local businesses and the residential communities that they are a part of.

A Jane's Walk so nice, we had to run it twice! And now...quadrice?

I'm retreading the steps I took with the folks from @moreneighboursto.bsky.social, but with a stronger emphasis on retail. This topic is being revisited by Council; we're going to win.

Some nice new mapping/charting of multiplex uptake from the Star. I liked the second one that looked at the ratio of new builds to renos. About 3/4s of multiplexes approved since the Multiplex Study By-law was passed have been renos.

Wish the rest of Ontario would get on him about this. His failures in health care alone should have everyone furious.

This is great, especially for people who can't file their own return due to neuro differences or disabilities.

Canada’s new government is starting Automatic Federal Benefits. We’re going to pre-file taxes for up to 5.5 million low-income Canadians, so they get the benefits they are entitled to — money that would otherwise be left unclaimed.

Clinics are the one place patients should be SAFE

Colds, flus & coughs are the #1 reason why Canadians see a doctor

…so where did masking in healthcare go?

It’s political.

"Masks prevent the transmission of respiratory viruses. The science is clear," writes Iris Gorfinkel. "The standards are in place. A health policy that reacts to hospitalizations and deaths falls below the long-held standard of do-no-harm. Policies that are enacted only once hospitalizations are high do the opposite.

Not Canadian, eh? Canadian Tire's been around since 1922 when it started as a tire -- then primarily automotive parts -- store. Now also sells sports equipment, hardware, housewares (inlcuding small appliances), & seasonal stuff (garden centre in spring-summer). Over 500 stores across Canada. 1/2

The safe and equitable movement of people in this city (with all due respect to the 26 people in council) goes far beyond e-scooters on sidewalks.

The city is car centric and car dependent.

There needs to be a recalibration of how space is allocated to prioritize people over cars. #PoliticalWill

Two years later, it’s déjà vu — Labour Minister David Piccini admits he personally picked which of his friends got millions from the Skills Development Fund.

This is Clio. She did not study for the test today. Also does not know how to read. 12/10 (IG: paspastotoro)
a black and gray long-haired yorkiepoo sits at a desk in a university classroom. a piece of paper lays on the desk in front of her, her paws propped up on the desk as if she's bracing herself. there are students in the background hunched over and working on paper in front of them. the pup looks at the camera with a concerned side eye. she's realizing she probably should have read some of the homework before eating it.
