About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages

If Tony the Tiger was a community creation with overt sexuality already baked into his design, he would ironically not go nearly as far as the relatively innocuous design that has plausible deniability. It’s the horny equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel.

I think one of the strongest motivators of furries that lust after characters from mainstream releases (despite having plenty of personalized & community-created material available) is that there is something inherent to perverting something that wasn’t designed with that kind of gaze in mind.

It always looks silly from these guys but this basic logic where the most marginalized people are actually elites representing “the machine” is also the shared understanding people running newsrooms and universities believe as well.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back

Eventually those strengthened international media markets are going to prefer to make their own rather than buy the expensive USA import. The quality difference is not going to be noticeable anymore while also being more culturally relevant to the audience than the bland view from nowhere.

You have to, you know, actually invest in the medium if you want to continue to lead in it, instead of sleeping at the wheel as other countries got easier access to the tools of production via digital art and thus the chance to not just catch up but surpass the US either artistically or box-office.

Canada has been subsidizing it for decades now. It's why so much of our stuff is animated there, despite being supposedly US-incorporated productions. VFX also moved up there in the last 15 years or so.
Much like how the US now lacks manufacturing capacity, media production can degrade, too.

California is really going to have to subsidize its animation industry because the outsourcing has made the brain drain a real problem; all alongside burning out workers because they can't have a career longer than their last gig since there's no residuals system to support them long-term.
