The slender-billed curlew was once thought to be fairly widespread. It was a migratory species that bred in central Asia and wintered in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

There have been no sightings since the mid-1990s. This month it's been declared officially extinct. ☹️

Eg:
Asking to raise the admissions cap isn’t campaigning for a secular education system.
Pressing to shut down illegal schools isn’t a campaign for secular education system - that’s a safeguarding issue, & would need attention whatever was happening in the state sector

We know faith based education divides communities
We’ve an example of it from N. Ireland where segregation of Protestant & Catholic children from early childhood fed powerfully into sectarianism & strife
Having faith based Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim & etc schools is both daft & dangerous

This is an incredibly powerful poem by Warsan Shire about why people seek asylum

No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark. You only run for the border when you see the whole city running as well. The boy you went to school with, who kissed you dizzy behind the old tin factory, is holding a gun bigger than his body. You only leave home when home won't let you stay.
No one would leave home unless home chased you. It's not something you ever thought about doing, so when you did, you carried the anthem under your breath, waiting until the airport toilet to tear up the passport and swallow, each mournful mouthful making it clear you would not be going back.
No one puts their children in a boat, unless the water is safer than the land. No one would choose days and nights in the stomach of a truck, unless the miles travelled meant something more than journey ...
No one would leave home unless home chased you to the shore. No one would leave home until home is a voice in your ear saying - leave, run, now. I don't know what I've become.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

I often think that from all those documentaries on the rise of the Nazis which have appeared on our TV screens over the decades, and all those school WW2 history courses, the only lesson we’ve really learnt well from them all is how to do effective propaganda.
