Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

I often think that from all those documentaries on the rise of the Nazis which have appeared on our TV screens over the decades, and all those school WW2 history courses, the only lesson we’ve really learnt well from them all is how to do effective propaganda.
Goebbels lives, sadly.

I think you should make a formal complaint to NHS England
This denialism is getting beyond silly now and puts people at risk.

Classic narcissist & abuser behaviours from him
What a wally too - no insight into how this looks!

•Covid deaths
•victims of stop and search

As Toby Young points out, Black people are over-represented in advertising. He somehow forgot to mention they are over-represented in poverty, unemployment and homelessness statistics too.

“If someone says they are in bed with flu, it’s almost certainly Covid, given that the number of people admitted to hospital for Covid last week was 50 times higher than the number admitted for flu!”

After a long pause, I've just done another England Covid & NHS update as we head into the autumn/winter season.

TLDR: we're in a significant Covid wave now, the NHS is stretched, get boosted if you're eligible.

You aren’t wrong
But a minorish correction : #BBC Radio4 News and Politics is being/has been destroyed
I stopped listening to to the Today programme over 10 yrs ago and PM once Evan Davis arrived
Most of the rest remains pretty good lots of good drama, stories, science, arts reviews etc

Singing Jerusalem is Englishness Dan! (A clue in the lyrics)
I agree that we’ve achieved much; but there remains much to improve too.
One only has to look at ethnic data on, eg, school exclusions, involvement in the CJS, stop & search stats, to see there’s no room for complacency

What happened to anyone who seriously threatened to reverse any part of the Thatcherite revolution? Who was it that enforced those penalties. There’s your answer, and there’s who is to blame.

He used to lie
But now, if I met him in A&E for the first time, I think I might conclude he was confabulating
His untruths are more bizarre than before, & he really seems to believe he has stopped 7 wars.
(Including the one between Azerbaijan & Albania the rest of the world knew nothing about)

Incredible the JCVI isn’t bound to consider the prevention & alleviation of suffering when determining Covid19 vaccine policy
The human costs of Covid & #LongCovid are entirely ignored & marginalised in decision making
Only £££ considered

In a second reading of the NHS Bill in the House of Commons (April 1946) Aneurin Bevan said the #NHS

This is unsurprising
The pandemic showed how vulnerable our scientific community was to politicisation & corruption
Excellent editorial from 2020 in the #BMJ by @kamranabbasi.bsky.social (now Editor of same) on this

The JCVI & UKHPA are thoroughly b*ggered

We found that the UK’s top scientific institutions, from the Met Office to the UK Health Security Agency, have inadequate institutional defences.

If an incoming government wanted to weaken the role of science and evidence in policy making, it could do so shockingly fast. 2/11

Totally agree 🧵
The JCVI was hijacked by minimisers & advised by them too (inc. by the RCPCH)
Our vaccine policy seems out of kilter with other advanced economies

I’ve been suffering from asthma, bronchitis & sinusitis since a nasty Covid infection in May (5m ago) - little response to steroids….
