“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

This is why they continue to be angry, even when the people they want a tally win control and try to do the things they want. Because that doesn't automatically change the culture and may even strengthen the cultural effects they hate!

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Struggling in the NLDS is what helped wake the team up to win it all laat year. Hoping the fight the Phillies put up helped the boys in blue focus for what's coming...

The 82nd fought in WWI but it wasn't an airborne unit until WWII. There weren't any parachute operations in WWI that I'm aware of.

Was that only on my cable (Spectrum in L.A.) or did ESPN really switch back to ESPN from ESPN2 w/o warning in the middle of the AB at the exact moment that Ohtani hit that HR so the entire country missed it live? Whatever producer is responsible from that should be hung from the 6th street bridge.

The South Korean Ministry of Defense has awarded medals of merit to 11 officers for disobeying direct orders of superiors during the martial law fiasco, orders that they deemed to be contrary to the constitution and endangerment to democracy.

Yeah man we should really fight back by staying on X

It's an ugly win, and I'll take it of course, but we need more convincing wins heading into the playoffs or it'll be a short run. Dodgers playoff baseball already induces enough anxiety without the starters killing themselves to stretch deeper and every reliever stumbling through every at bat.

Not particularly relevant anymore....? We're literally debating whether it's the reason a major political activist was assassinated last week.

It actually kinda seems like you've flipped from the normal position you take on all other political issues ("stop looking at the apparent straight-forward answer and consider the impact of the memes") and are now arguing that folks should be ignoring the effect of the too-online culture.

I don't think this is the guy because an operator that careful probably wouldn't be touching every railing in sight with his bare hands.

Time for Poland to announce a unilateral no fly zone over western Ukraine. Put the new F-35s to the test, loaded down with air-to-air missiles. Let Ukrainian air defense focus on the Easteen half of the country.

People are melting down at a Tribune article about CHSD 230 considering adding Arabic to its language learning electives. I wasted time in the comments, which I normally avoid doing since it's useless and awful, but it led to possibly the funniest thing anybody's ever said to me about France.
A screenshot of Facebook comments. The first, from somebody named Marcella, says "Wake up America! The encroachment is insidious and dangerous to our ideals and beliefs."

In reply, Soren says "That's why we turned French when they started offering French classes, right?"

Replying to Soren, somebody named Ken says "The French don't have a record of colonizing and conquering countries; and forcing their culture on the natives. Arabs do."

It's 100% intentional and it's why the GOP has been targeting public employee unions for YEARS. Think of the battles in Wisconsin. They're all complicit.
