You all should be aware of this book

Also, the idea that a version of Jewish gumbo cannot exist and be authentic because some versions of gumbo contain shellfish and pork is um, its a limiting world view on food

Hornworm! I've seen this IRL, it's cool but also kinda spooky at normal scale.

Spookiest decoration at the "Zoo Goes Boo" event at the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids? Giant model of parasitoid wasps hatching from cocoons affixed to their caterpillar host.
Large model of a green caterpillar, the back of which is covered by dozens of white cocoons. Wasps can be seen emerging from some of the cocoons.

This is why the costumes are honestly brilliant. Ngo, who has never said a truthful thing in his entire life (remember the concrete milkshake?) now has to convince people inflatable Sesame Street and animal costumes are violent terrorists.

Sometimes you just need an image too silly to demonize.

Worth a friendly reminder that the next set of nation-wide No Kings protests are set for October 18th.

There's probably one in your area.

I am not generally a crowds or protests sort of person, but there's one in my town and I'll be at it on the 18th.

Everybody thinks they're a photography expert now. I put my camera down for a minute and this mantis has to go and change my settings on me.

Unfortunately the warnings were ”being cops” and “having tear gas”

A federal judge ordered federal agents last week to issue two warnings before using tear gas.

Witnesses said they heard no warnings and none can be heard on videos, @chicago.suntimes.com reports

I am very tired of this, but a quick review.

In America, it is legal for you to own your bullshit laser, no matter how it got into the county.

How you use your bullshit laser matters. Most jurisdictions escalate to felony for lighting up any law enforcement. Doing to them in the sky is ++Felony.

This is such an astoundingly bad idea that I kinda think it’s a false flag or an op of some sort

Merits aside, it is insanely easy to be caught if you do this and the punishment for doing this is much more severe than you’d guess.

Fundamentally, anybody eating (nearly) anything they want to is valid, which is part of why all this is nonsense. No country or ethnicity really *owns* any kind of food or even cuisine - different things are just more or less common and popular in various times, places, and communities.
bjorning.bsky.social
Huh, that's not a belief I'd ever heard of previously. Interesting.
bjorning.bsky.social
Of course they can! But to address the "stealing cuisine" nonsense, the fact that a bunch of Israeli cuisine is specifically Mizrahi in origin is relevant.
bjorning.bsky.social
More like acknowledging that a whole lot of what's called "Israeli food" (not scare quotes, just specifying the string) is specifically Jewish versions of other Mediterranean food, mostly from countries that expelled their Jews. There's also Israeli Ashkenazi food but it's less prominent here.

You idiots wouldn't fall for a "Taliban" goat-f—er meme, or digs on "Haitian" intelligence.

That's because you aren't falling for it. Your ranks are infested with people who say that either antisemitism is correct (maybe for only the Jews they don't like) or that it's permissible weapon.
