What kind of crazy designer frames is he buying? Because the lenses needed to correct astigmatism would not cost ANYWHERE near that much.

Pitch: A movie star whose moves always bomb, just pure box office poison, who studios use as a sort of franchise hitman to tank any tentpole movie for tax purposes. ENTOURAGE meets THE PRODUCERS. And make sure you rack up the budget on this thing because I've got the perfect guy to play the lead

The only thing anyone ever got out of this film was an excuse to make out for an hour and a half at a drive in. If it weren't for the fact it was on the same set as The Naked Witch (an equally cheap but far goofier film I watched a year or two ago), I wouldn't have sought this out at all.

Apparently the director/writer/producer saw The Haunting and decided "I can do that too!" despite her lack of experience, talent, funds, or ideas. The end results feels like someone filmed a amateur theater troupe, complete w/ crude audio and editing. No wonder she never made another movie again.

The Ghosts of Hanley House is a low-rent knock-off of The Haunting where a group of folks spend the night in a haunted house only to be tormented by the cheap sound effects, stock footage, and crude optical effects meant to represent ghosts, to everyone's dull surprise. #horrormeganthon

Parking is a nightmare, there are too many people EVERYWHERE, I cannot get out of town soon enough.

There are 2 or 3 different events going on in downtown Iowa City rn and it's made my usual relaxing farmers market Saturday into an absolute annoyance.

We crossed the 200 mark a couple of days ago - we're currently at 212 sales.

Every single book sold helps us cover the costs, and will help us determine if we'll be able to keep AH Mag going for more issues.

It's still a very silly film onto itself IMO, but people are willing to take it on its own terms now instead of hating it simply by virtue of not having Michael Myers in it.

And I watched Evil of Dracula last year. Looking up my comments, seems like I liked it fine but found the use of the jew's harp for horror stings to be very distracting in a Gundam-coded way.

Oh, Vampire Doll is on my list of films to watch later this month.

The worst part is that I should have know because a few years ago ZaGordeon talked about this in one of their Halloween "review a bunch of spooky Mill Creek movie collections" specials and had pretty much the same complaints I did.

I'm glad I've finally seen the Blind Dead movies in full, but I can only recommend the first two in good faith. By the time its creators got to this and Night of the Seagulls, they had exhausted all their good ideas and all that was left were the film equivalent of two long, tedious death marches.

I do wish the film took more opportunity of its setting. It's a creaky old wooden ship, perpetually stuck in misty darkness, removed from the outside world. It looks great and creepy! Yet they don't lean into the sound FX like they should and it's so underlit it's often physically hard to see.

Why yes, that same character IS the only character in the entire film who is graphically killed (and eaten!) by the Blind Dead. How did you guess?

At least in this film it's easier to explain how people could get trapped by slow, shuffling puppets...er, Templar ghouls on a spooky ship.

The biggest problem is that the first half-hour feels like someone mixed up the reels with some C-tier giallo, as an overprotective lesbian model searches for her missing "roommate" only to get kidnapped, assaulted, and dragged along by her captors to investigate the titular ship.

The Ghost Galleon is the 3rd film in the Blind Dead series and the only one (until today) I hadn't seen. I was hoping it would be closer in quality to the first 2 films but NOPE! Instead it's sleepy, stupid, and literally hard to watch at points. #horrormeganthon

Sometimes creators can willfully give up those rights (like Yoshiyuki Tomino did to the term "Gundam," although he still gets credited as a creator), but it doesn't happen often.

She would only be paid so much for her role as director, but as co-creator she would be entitled to royalties for anything involving the property she created (including media sales and merchandise). Even if she only got a tiny percentage of that YOI boom, it'd still be a decent chunk of change.

I want to believe that someday Sayo will return to anime, but it's undeniable now that one of the best directors in modern anime got chased out of the industry at the height of her career by greedy dudes that did not understand her vision and that's a genuine tragedy.
brainchild129.bsky.social
We also know now that the producers at MAPPA were big mad that they didn't get as much of the profits from YOI as others (including Yamamoto, by virtue of being its co-creator) would, which is part of the reason they do nothing but adaptations anymore.
