"THE HISTORY OF THE SEATTLE MARINERS gestures to a world wherein the rules & rulings fundamentally don’t matter; to be alive amid them is enough & to make friction amid them divine. All the arbitrary rulings of a given reality fall to stupid joys, idiot glee rubbing up against deeply felt melancholy
“The Love You Send is Endless”: The History of the Seattle Mariners (2020)
The History of the Seattle Mariners is the first cultural object I’ve encountered that painstakingly constructs a specific, relatable history only to use that construct to then gesture towards the fut...

One of the signature actresses of her or any era, and a woman who paved a path most Hollywood actresses -haven't- followed: dressing to express joy and a sense of self. On Diane Keaton: time.com/7325208/dian...
The Astonishing Versatility of Diane Keaton
Keaton, who died at 79, is often remembered for her comedic performance in Annie Hall, but she did so much more throughout her career.

Just a reminder that this really happened this week & that there is a STEP BROTHERS/NIGHTMARE ALLEY universe 🦖

Threw on the new Criterion of NIGHTMARE ALLEY 2021 and forgot that the reappearance of Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen makes this the Catalina Wine Mixer of Guillermo Del Toro's oeuvre.

Art can be our refuge from politics but it can also help us reflect on our politics (and our art). A piece of very fine writing that did both for me. 👇

I would watch Jaws: the Revenge every day for the rest of my life rather than watch two hours of an AI movie

One thing AI is good for is reminding people how even the very worst movie they’ve ever seen is better than AI “movies”

an AI will generate some garbage spaceship, a bad movie will have people spray paint a bunch of household objects silver and stick them to a dumpster and call it a spaceship that kinda works from some angles with some clever camera work, which is just objectively better in every way

There are so many bad horror movies I’ve enjoyed watching just because you can tell everyone involved is doing it for the love of the art, AI is not capable of that

I'd rewatch Alone in the Dark and Piranha 3DD before I'll watch some AI bullshit

Certain celebrity deaths are harder to process than others because the person in question was so full of life and creativity and originality that you just assume it's never going to end.

The great actress Diane Keaton has left us at the age of 79. Too soon to say good-bye to the woman who made us smile at the quirky Annie Hall, and who broke our hearts in Reds. Your charm and talent will be sorely missed.
