Alright, let’s do this:

The Top 60 New-To-Me Films for 2024.
It’s so streamers like Netflix can cancel shows they just plain don’t like and claim it’s because of ratings, and everyone will take them at their word like chumps.
The grodiest shit of the 21st century is the willful obfuscation of entertainment data. From this, every dogshit decision about “content” and “metrics” flows like a river of piss
This is innumerate nonsense. An average of 1.1 million people were watching The Simpsons throughout its entire thirty-minute broadcast according to a third-party data company contracted to measure viewership by Disney. Somebody, no way to know who, hit the play button 1.7 million times on Twitter

Saw the trailer for the new Glen Powell A24 thing and boy do we need a moratorium on “eat the rich” movies in the worst way.

I remember in college I was given an application to Entertainment Weekly’s summer internship program, I was about to apply until I got to the part about it being completely unpaid and with no supplied housing and how does a not-rich person survive that
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

I can see SENTIMENTAL VALUE this weekend, might also hit WAKE UP DEAD MAN on Monday

Scrubs is a show I loved so much in college that I can’t really revisit because the way JD treated women was borderline sociopathic (Tasty Coma Wife, anyone?)

The worst thing about being a night manager is that when the day managers fuck up the prep for a large customer order *I* get stuck being the one who has to apologize profusely when they pick it up, even though I had nothing to do with it, gets really old after awhile.

8 days later, still nothing! Just says “Carrier waiting for package.” This is even more of an outrage!
My BETTER TOMORROW 4K shipped on Monday and 5 days later it still says USPS is waiting for the item. This is an outrage.

My real answer to this is, as always, a David Simon and/or Richard Price POWER BROKER mini-series. Those guys ain’t getting younger!
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

If this movie even happens everyone who buys a ticket should be listed as a sex offender
This is disgraceful toadying to someone who could well be dead, out of office, or both by the time this reanimated corpse knuckle-drags itself to the screen. Some context: Ratner directed the state-approved Melania doc that is coming to Prime, so he's now a friend of The Family. >
I teased this last night in What I’m Hearing but now confirmed: Paramount WILL release Rush Hour 4 after prodding from Trump on behalf of Brett Ratner. Distribution deal. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar is lining up financing. Get ready for the dumbest possible state-controlled media.

THE GREAT DICTATOR being the sole Chaplin movie on a “greatest comedies” list is malpractice

“They couldn’t make this movie today!” needs to be permanently stricken from the lexicon, post-haste

Finally watching VS’ THE KEEP 4K and it looks insane, I watched this on Amazon years ago on a VHS rip so to see it restored breaks my brain

A DIFFERENT MAN: Schimberg's thesis on the treatment of disfigured people in life and cinema expands into a withering Faustian black comedy; endlessly canny about ego and jealousy and exploitation. Stan, Reinsve and especially a hilariously guileless Adam Pearson are brilliant here.

American Cinema
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

About to watch A DIFFERENT MAN

The Vader fight scenes at the end is the worst moment in any of the movies.
Rogue One’s growing reputation is just misplaced Andor affection change my mind.

I sometimes just randomly put on the last 45 minutes of that movie, everything that happens after Rey turns herself in is the peak of the series. Not RJ’s fault that Abrams and Kennedy decided to let Reddit write the third movie
the last jedi is the best star wars film because i do not care about star wars at all and when stuff explodes in the last jedi it looks way cooler than it does in any other star wars movie, thank you for your time
