I'm a Japanese to English #translator whose "general" work has vanished, but I do cultural articles (like on Nippon.com) etc. Lately, I've been translating novels, especially the mystery/horror works of author #Uketsu: Strange Houses, Strange Pictures, and coming soon, Strange Buildings!

Annual bump up of my favorite Letterboxd list, The Corpse Behind the Door: Masterpieces of Dread! This is for those films that feel like eyes on you at the end of a dark hallway, ice cold water on the back of your neck, or never feeling like you’re alone in the middle of nowhere.

Been agonizing cutting this show sizzle reel at work the last few weeks. Finally got it to a gargantuan 41-minute assembly of soundbites Monday. Just sent in my massively condensed 13-minute cut for notes and I wanna punch the air.

9. This time, the backlash seems to be losing steam. If the far right can’t even muster a meaningful dent in Netflix’s bottom line, the balance of power may be shifting.

Give yourself 10 minutes to watch the opening of Werckmeister Harmonies, Krasznahorkai's collaboration with Bela Tarr and Agnes Hranitzky, adapted from his novel The Melancholy of Resistance.

Major congratulations to a titanic figure of world literature. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5X...

Happiest of Birthdays to @realgdt.bsky.social! All of his films are labors of love worth looking forward to every time. Hope today’s a welcome break full of new models to build and new cinematic discoveries to watch! (Might I recommend anything by Koji Shiraishi? 😄)

Parts of it are clunky as hell, but damn if Jan De Bont's take on THE HAUNTING isn't such a sumptuous and elegant-looking movie. In a perfect world, we'd get a massive, big-budget gothic horror film every year.
