The groups that shifted most towards Trump were not the groups hardest hit by inflation. Worldwide, the thing that seems most consistently linked to extremist, anti-institutional politics is not any set of economic conditions but SOCIAL MEDIA AND IMMERSION IN A DIGITAL INFORMATION ENVIRONMENT

How they form those ideas and beliefs is incredibly complicated, often irrational, and driven more by social interactions than observable reality, logic or reason. But it is the ideas and beliefs that propel people, not their bank account or some underlying consumerist instinct

Denk has always been very supportive of Primoz — this year, even in the daily TDF RBBH pods. Happy to see it continue. I hear folks criticizing PR in the last days but I think that after a hard year, he’s doing these races in part to add load & also to work with team as much as targeting wins.

No institutional design can overcome a lawbreaking president, a Congress defending lawbreaking and forfeiting its own power, a Supreme Court that pretends legal text doesn’t count to facilitate lawbreaking, and a citizenry that votes for all that.
Need at least one that wants rule of law. Maybe two.

The Democrats aren’t being clear enough about this but we can be: this shutdown is about saving lives.

If we don’t reverse the Medicaid cuts (and the ACA subsidies on insurance bought through the exchanges) that Republicans made this year, people will die.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”
