Letting myself feel a tiny sliver of hope as a treat.
It’s funny hearing Berliners complain about cars here. It’s easy mode comparatively. My HR is at least 30bpm lower while riding here and it’s not just because it’s so flat.
And unless it’s a protected lane, be ready for your bike lane to be used as an auxiliary lane for cars. They won’t check blind spots so either drive next to the driver side window in clear view or just behind the rear bumper so you can react.
Honestly it’s not that different from most places but seriously, drivers are looking at their phones constantly so assume they won’t see you. Outside of the dense areas, definitely be careful about time of day and commuters: they’re more likely to sideswipe (Long Island service roads for example).
I don’t mind looking though I am in Berlin now. Honestly, follow heat maps and never trust cars to follow the rules and you’ll be ok. Cops are kinda terrible lately so keep an eye out for traps. They’ll give you a criminal summons for trivialities like stopping in the crosswalk…
If they can’t denounce it, they are it. It’s not a nuanced issue at all and you’re right to keep calling it out. Opposition needs to press so much harder on these points. (I say opposition not Democrats because most of them seem to be okay with letting the GOP do this without complaint)
People’s attention spans are about as long as the average short video clip on popular apps.

But yeah, I remember telling my parents these people were Nazis. I think it felt like hyperbole so it was set aside. Then that happened and still it was a “not all republicans” vibe.
I feel that. I am lost on the discourse lately. It’s like camps circling the problem but never referencing that there isn’t a real solution yet, only ideas of what it should look like. I’m hoping problems with app views shift to make self-hosting fragments of the network a more bite sized endeavor.
There’s a lot of 🤦‍♀️ to go around when bsky says “just use your own infra” but it’s equally silly for people to go around talking about decentralization as some cure-all for social media, especially those who treat decentralization as some sort of absolute.
Im not going to search for the subskeet reference but this is a good point while simultaneously feeling like a steawman. Are people saying that decentralized posting is the end goal or *shifted power dynamics*?

Isn’t this an invasion?
I am always weary of the adjustment done to the Japanese taste. It's subtle sweetness added to so many things. But the spots that take pride in their authenticity of foreign foods tend to be okay.
I'm just an all around "slightly simpliced"
Oh yes. No pizza in Japan for me. They sweeten it and add things like corn. Same deal with burritos. Some things just shouldn't be done.
Similar, though I was a drop-out. Self-taught and working a software job which paid me min-wage (lolsob) but it launched me into a career where I am today.
Correct. Though I'd expand this umbrella to a couple brands. Little Caesars too. Maybe Papa Johns but I stopped eating there long ago.
I don't know what it is but there's a delicious quality to the clearly over processed ingredients in crazy sauce. Also Costco pizza which holds a special place in my heart. 😂

I can easily live without these things. In fact I'll probably live longer without. But it's like a core memory.
The one food group I kind of miss in the EU is American junk food pizza. (Distinct from non-junk food pizza, which is also distinct from Chicago style [not] pizza.)
When you're having a rough day it's totally okay to buy multiple pizzas from Little Caesars while using coupon code SCORE to get buy one get one free Crazy Bread (on the app)
It's also fine to have a good cry with the employees when you pick them up!
Pizza in my front seat
So cool! Also that moment where you need a good password... I’d be frozen with indecision.
Relieved and thankful right now. I have a clear way forward for the time being and that brings so much room to fill life with good things instead of stress.
I've been happily off of LinkedIn for over a decade. Never going back if I can help it.
The job market is bad enough. The last thing recruiters should be doing is parading around candidates like circus performances.
I could tell Strava was a terrible company as a past customer/user but this is super gross. "Wow! Look at this. It's so good. Let's use it to make an inspiring post. High fives all around." ... "Oh, we didn't hire him. Well I guess he was so lucky to allow us to make us feel good about recruiting."
inspiring 💗💖
LinkedIn post about how a guy got a job interview at Strava by running a route that spelled HIRE ME on the map HIRE ME written on the map (looking more like HIRE NE tbh) commenter asks if the guy got the job and OP says “I don't think so. But his effort got him noticed and a foot in the door when so many others didn't”
BREAKING: hello from the *internet* 😮

If HR Giger designed Willy Wonka’s factory:
Yeah… not that I don’t want to be here (friends) but the circumstances really suck. (My German is still rough, practicing but I can write better English).
