Fuck genAI! I am disappointed in so many people who think they can carve a useful little tool out of the monstrously terrible AI industry.

ITS NOT ABOUT WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT!

It could do the job perfectly but it doesn’t remove the harm these companies have. Stop buying & normalizing this shit!

Yeah, im gonna go ahead and say Gawker doesnt need the retroactive kudos for being targeted by epstein. I'm so tired of the same shit over and over again. If cis people saw us as human, a lot of shit would be better for everyone rn.

While at Gawker, Hamilton Nolan wrote a disgusting article about Ava Cordero, a teenage trans girl who was an Epstein victim and one of the earliest whistleblowers on his proclivities.

Gotcha—let’s dig into that step by step.

1. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, because I turned you into an amorphous lump of flesh. You’re not just immobile—you’re immortal, and you feel only anguish.

2. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. That makes total sense—it’s a natural human impulse, and you’ve been through a lot.

These aren't normal times for politics, but even if they were, it's so clear that Democrats either don't know how to do politics or don't want to. Their position on the board is "the president is hated and his goon forces are despised" and they seem at wit's end how to message from that position.

Happy Zohran Day to my NYC friends. (I’m not staying up to tell it to you in a few hours.)

I thoroughly enjoyed 39C3. I posted a tiny bit more on mastodon but honestly am still processing most of it. What an amazing event this year. 11/10.

Bluesky in general, as a corporate entity and a technology, has been a letdown recently. It split away from the worst parts of its roots (Xitter & crypto) but didn’t prevent itself from falling back into the same ideas.

It’s not an outright failure but a very gradual return to enshitification.
I have kept my early skepticism with ATproto enthusiasts since the early days where it was explicitly crypto adjacent tech.

I have zero interest in that side but it does make me sad to see people like Rudy cross that gap because he had some radical ideas worth giving a shot.

@baochip.com where can I find you at C3? I’m very curious.

It’s because computers are unaccountable which is an idea they love. Never forget, the computer operator is accountable still. Don’t buy this “oops AI” line.
Others have noted this before, but it's ENRAGING to see corporations and bosses give this bullshit "A.i." trash FAR more leeway for error and general crappiness than they'd ever give any human creator.
I've started to see arguments that we have to get used to AI Slop coding even if it isn't great, because it's fast. Humans could go faster, too, if they're allowed to turn in stuff that only sometimes works. Such a fascinating double standard that will in no way come back to haunt, naw.

I’m finally attending c3 in Hamburg. 39c3 hype and anticipation is going to keep me awake all night. Even the mesh is lively with people all over the greater Hamburg region chatting (LF looks saturated, I’ll switch to SF at CCH tomorrow).

Essentially, I think that LLM-generated dialogue only makes sense if you believe that the product of writing is words.

But the product of writing isn't words, any more than the product of justice is prisoners, or the product of love is weddings. The product of writing is meaning.

Honestly, it’s so relieving to see someone like Rob Pike speak up like this. You can’t be neutral with AI. Its effects are farther reaching than a few prompts and I beg people to slow down for a moment.
Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

i hate that AI is such a buzzword these days because it's all linear algebra soup and sometimes the soup is actually extremely good. GFS's reduced accuracy in previous events (hurricane sandy, notably) from computational limitations has cost lives. 99.7% reduction with comparable accuracy is insane.

It’s weird seeing people announce they’ve left X on this platform and others. I’d personally consider it embarrassing to even admit to using that site at all.

Why now? Has all of the hate, bots, and misinformation finally affected you rather than others of us who left years ago?

This is the exact genre of story we’ll see with generative AI where people say things like “I just let it handle the boring parts.”

These people will end up exactly like these two incapable drivers. You can already see it happening. If you can’t live without it after, why become dependent at all?

This platform keeps testing me but I think it deserves to die. Honestly, I’ve been using it less and less this year. You can find me over on mastodon.social. It’s far from perfect but it’s not enshitified nor blatantly fascist.
