a rather significant portion of the founding was based on “no guys like Donald Trump in particular”

they really specifically wanted to avoid this type of know-nothing demagogue
people will say the framers never could have predicted this, but that's not true at all, they absolutely *did* expect someone like trump, they thought congress would *stop* him, and they thought they made that clear

Wow. That's… that actually sounds like they've learned the lessons of last year and see that they can win on this issue, across the board. I really hope it sticks.
This follows the news that the minibus spending bill has no restrictions on gender-affirming care either. It looks like Democrats dug their heels in on this one and won.

The minibus spending bill is out! This is for the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026. Notably, there are no restrictions for gender-affirming care or trans care in here.

Rich ppl are so stupid. Just, in general. Big dunderheads who are selfish and trend toward evil, trying to convince ppl they're smart. They're not.

This is a post from a fucking parody site, but here's a nice blue grifter trading on outrage for eyeballs and not mentioning or caring or checking a source. For fuck's sake.

So funny that when I was a kid they packaged trading cards with a wooden slab of the worst gum you can imagine and we all just kind of went with it.

On this, I was listening to something last week and a lifeguard was talking about how often parents would attack him when he rescued their child.

That’s a shame reaction, and it is in the same class as calling displays of empathy (might even call them signals of virtue) fake or arrogant.
We’re not all like them, and that’s one of the reasons they hate us.

They think we’re being stuck up or fake by having genuine human compassion and not being entirely consumed by greed

I always hear about how "When I'm sick or feel bad my cat snuggles and tries to help" must be nice. Pants just yells louder trying to make me do stuff for her faster. It's her form of tough love, and I get it and accept it. She's a little old angry baby who needs what she needs.

there’s this weird assumption that we are admitting defeat or depriving ourselves of great insight by blocking and it’s like, no, the entire scope of my interaction with you is one (1) stupid comment you left me and now I don’t have to think about you again

ken did a really great thread here that nicely articulates why i block doomers.

the only thing i’ll add is this: doomerism is a form of voter suppression. saying shit like “there won’t be elections” is saying there’s no point in fighting. it’s demotivating. fuck that.
This kind of thing does point out a real ethical dilemma: block or mute?

In Rise of the Zombie Bugs, I wrote about cockroaches that fight back against zombifying wasps with roundhouse kicks. So you can imagine my glee when @peculiarbookclub.bsky.social's Davey Berris acted out pro-wrestling style trash-talk between a wasp and roach (heck, the whole show was delightful!)

awful news. the man became an '80s icon with just 4 movies: Seems Like Old Times, Southern Comfort, The Thing, and Doctor Detroit. Always like this guy, and he will be missed.
We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of T. K. Carter, beloved by genre fans for his role as Nauls in John Carpenter’s 1982 classic THE THING.

and it's why just blocking them over here instead of fighting/quote dunking is the truly meanest & pettiest thing you can do to them.

folks act like just blocking is some sort of act of maturity or being above it. SHIT NO, I'M SADISTICALLY TORTURING THEM WITH INVISIBILITY. They hate it SO MUCH.
