To be fair, North Star is cool and worth doing for its own sake. Especially the traverse to the west of the summit.

it’s nice to know that no matter where you are in the world, different hospitals still can’t agree on whether echocardiograms go under Radiology → Ultrasounds or if they go under Cardiology → Studies

Difficult to overstate how jubilant the Israeli populace is. Dozens of thousands in the streets watching live the return of the hostages.

Working on a theory that, thanks to what Silicon Valley has done to the bay, Portland now exemplifies the imaginary of lefty metropolis that San Francisco did in the last century, the Oberlin of Cities

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver this week is a complete takedown of Bari Weiss... and it's thorough and devastating.

And a bit of interesting timing, given that Weiss's new boss, David Ellison (who is talked about in the episode) is trying to buy HBO, where Oliver's show is...

If people think it's crazy to start off on the wrong trail, do not be so smug. I once tried to climb Quandary Peak but I was on the wrong mountain (North Star mountain) 🤣

Does look like a lot more hiking if you start off on Fall Creek Trail from the Halfmoon trailhead. Seems like you'd be a lot more tired near the Holy Cross summit if you went this way.

Some early analysis of the major rainfall and flooding in southwest Colorado this weekend in this blog post. It was one of the largest fall rainstorms ever to hit the region, and resulted in major flooding on the San Juan River in Pagosa Springs and on Vallecito Creek, among other locations. #cowx

It would be interesting for someone to run for US president on the platform of firing every one hired to work for ICE over the past 4 years. Firing all of them on day 1.

It's striking that even in the defenses of Bari Weiss's broader thing no one ever says that she or her website does good work. Even the people that admire the success she's had selling lite reactionary shit to rich old guys top out at "people do seem to like it." You could defend Jake Paul that way.

This is a really, really good act of protest that uses a protest language that has a chance of reaching people who would otherwise dismiss the issue. You can tell by how many former Catholics are seeing it here and having like entire full-body shudders despite having left the church decades ago.
