My review of Monster: The Ed Gein Story

I am not being hyperbolic when I say this is one of the worst television shows I have ever seen in my whole 40 years on this planet. That this bears absolutely zero resemblance to the real Ed Gein is one thing in and of itself, but even if this was about a completely fictional murderer (which it essentially IS), it would be baffling and indefensible. By the time history's greatest lover and friend Ed Gein starts speaking in an Irish accent and solving crimes, the show is so far gone you have to just fucking accept it. This is what you've chosen to do with your precious time. You've committed eight hours to the absurdist rehabilitation of Ed Gein, misunderstood victim who lit up every room he entered. After all, aren't we the monsters or whatever? Who lives, who dies, who tells his stoooory?

for the franchise, the first three books of the vampire chronicles should get you caught up (but if you want to take the shortcut watching the first two seasons of the show & just reading queen of the damned works lol)
