The Wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus), as its flattering name suggests, is an incredibly popular subject for underwater photography.

With their lanky limbs and stripes, they look very similar to the mimic octopus. Both species have a similar range and mimic other animals.

A Wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus) standing on the sea floor. It has its arms together, so it looks skinny and tall. Its mantle and eye stalks are also quite thin. The octopus has an orange colour with some black stripes and white stripes. A blackwater photograph of juvenile wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus). It is facing the camera and has its arms curving and dangling down. Its body is translucent except for its eyes and an internal organ. There are shiny, multicoloured specs in its flesh. Some are blue, green yellow or red. A wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus) sitting on the seabed, looking at the camera. It has a thin mantle and eyes on long stocks, with fleshy "horns" above the eyes. Its long arms feeling around and widened. It is orangish brown coloured, with off white stripes. Its suckers are visible, and they alternate in colour with the stripes on the arms. A wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus) sitting on the seabed. It has a thin mantle and eyes on long stocks, with fleshy "horns" above the eyes. Its long, thin arms are stretching across the sand. It is mango coloured, with beige, sandy textured stripes. Telescope octopus (genus Amphitretus) are gelatinous, transparent and almost colourless octopuses with unique tubular eyes. It is thought that these eyes help give them excellent peripheral vision.

They are also quite small, with a mantle length of 9 cm.

Was not actively participating in #invertober this year but I do have this old drawing of a scaly-food gastropod that I simply must share

10/10 is Squid and Cuttlefish day or #squittleday, so have some banger squid memes
The Car Salesman Slaps Roof of Car meme: A drawn image of a salesman in a suit explaining to another man who is listening intently. The salesman is gesturing to the egg mass of diamondback squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus) floating in the sea. The egg mass is magenta and is a coiled thread of squid eggs, forming a tube that looks not unlike a slinky. Test on top reads: "Squid Egg Salesman: *slaps egg mass* this bad boy can fit so many eggs in it" A picture of Snoop Dogg (Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) on the left, and a picture of Bathyteuthis squid (Bathyteuthis sp.) on the right. The squid is reddish orange and has large beady eyes with the pupils dilated. The squid is inking, and the cloud of ink looks like whisps of smoke. Text below both images reads "SNOOP DOGG SAYS ONLY ONE PERSON HAS OUT SMOKED HIM" A "The cooler Daniel" meme.

There is a year book with two pictures in the centre. The left one is labelled "Daniel" and it is a European common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) swimming on top of seaplants with its arms all pointed down. It is mostly brown and light brown with white on its bottom. The right picture is labelled "The cooler Daniel" and it is a European common cuttlefish in white box wearing red and blue 3D glasses. Its arms are reaching out in front of it with a spread pattern. The cuttlefish is mostly light brown with white at the bottom. Wizard pondering their orb meme. A wizard with a big bushy beard in grey robers is staring at an orb on an ornatet stone table, except the orb has been replaced with the "squorb" (squid orb), a dead Rough Cranch Squid (Cranchia scabra) found at a beach that has its mantle in a spherical shape. The squorb has been tinted blue to match the original orb's glow. A figure is peering in the distance from a stone doorway.

East Pacific Red Octopuses (Octopus rubescens) were originally thought to be juvenile Giant Pacific Octopuses (Enteroctopus dofleini) due to their similar appearance and both being found on the west coast of North America.

#OCTOtober
An East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) sitting in a clear plastic container along with a piece of kelp. The octopus is about six inches and length, and it a dark orangish red. It has two rows of suckers on its arms. An East Pacific Red Octopus paralarva (Octopus rubescens) being held in a bit of water in a white plastic spoon. It has its arms spread out, with some of them raised. The octopus is round and transparent, with translucent orange chromatophores. It has large eyes proportionally to its tiny body and you can see organs in its mantle. It is very cute although it looks sort of like a metroid. juvenile East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) only about 2.5 cm long sitting on something (Maybe a shell) and striking a pose. There is a black background and the octopus is a beautiful red and orange. An East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) and a prawn sitting in the plastic bin with water in it. They are just sitting next to each other and not interacting. The octopus has part of its head and eyes above the water, and the part out of the water looks shiny. The octopus is brown. The prawn is brown with orange coloured tail. Beneath the bin is metal with a tread plate pattern.

World octopus day, you say? Very well, then... here is an octopus (possibly a male argonaut). No clue what the jellyfish is. The jellyfish is swimming down to try and get away from the bright flashing lights.

A jellyfish, upside down because it's swimming downwards. On top of its bell is an octopus; it is translucent/white with some visible brown organs.

Some people doodle. My mother-in-law sews. Happy world squid and cuttlefish day!
A homemade green squid plushie with orange trim. Probably not anatomically correct. He's more than 2 meters from... um... the top body part to the bottom body part.

I know they’re closer to Octopi than Squid but I think they’d be fun to squish so I drew a vampire squid too.

I'm on the BBC talking about (how we won't be) evolving into crabs 🧪🦀

Also features Matt Wills (my academic older brother) and Ned Suesat-Williams (of the crab museum!). Unfortunately they were in London and I on zoom, so there was no time to tell Ned to join here
BBC Audio | The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry | To Crab, or Not to Crab?

Here's some large cuttlefish/CUTElfish for this wonderful day!
Two quite large (person sized) cuttlefish jetting over a beautiful reef. You can tell how big they are as divers are in the background. The colors are dancing grey and dark mottling on the one in front, dark striations on the one behind who has tentacles extended. Photo by Andrea Ramos
