Most photos of pygmy squids you see are close up, so you can get a good look at these tiny squids.

But when you get these zoomed out shots, you can see how silly they look with their tiny bodies glued to a sea plant, just waiting for a meal to swim by.

You beautiful, slinky worm, you! A Xenacoela - I don’t know much about these guys, but I think this one is gorgeous! Thanks @microbe_guru for the ID.

Maybe it's just the horns, but I get the feeling this octopus is planning some mischief.

Years ago during EX1706 #Okeanos on my tour as Biolead while we were parked in Honolulu harbor, I spied these cute little grapsid craps while were docked! Not sure which one, Grapsus? #crustmas

Bigfin squids (genus Magnapinna) have a reputation for being eldritch looking creatures, but that's mostly from some low res footage where they are just floating with their arms dangling.

When you get see them swimming, they look like a regular squid shaped squid, if you ignore their noodley arms.

Remember these baby octos? 🐙🦑🐡

This piece is in memory of my father, Jonathan Fay, who died suddenly in October.

He took the astro photo of NGC2244 with his SeeStar. He loved when I'd message him critters I found, & joining me when he could.

My new proposed common name for Haliphron atlanticus is the JELLY OCTOPUS (thx to @motthepaladin.bsky.social for asking!) because this species
✅ is very gelantious
✅ eats jellyfish
✅ may even use jellyfish as tools to capture other prey
However, it
❌ does not make tasty preserves

the typo in this is killing me, but on the bright side "gelantious" is fun to say
