Pretty little babies 🥰😍

The pearl octopus (Muusoctopus robustus) mates and nests in deep-sea thermal springs, where the warm water seeping from the seafloor accelerates the development of their embryos.

It's #WorldOctopusDay!

While I already have a post for #OCTOtober, here's a bonus of some octopus shitposts from personal collection
"Is it really worth it?" meme. Text says "is it really worth it?" and below it is two pictures. The left picture is a flapjack octopus (Opisthoteuthis sp.), probably Opisthoteuthis californiana. It is a small, adorable orange octopus. It has arms that are all connected with gelatinous webbing. It is big round black eyes with orange pupils, and two adorable fins on its mantle that look like cute little eats. The image on the right is a scoop or mango ice cream, which vaguely has the same shape as the octopus. The octopus is circled with a red circle and a red arrow extends from the circle pointing to the ice cream. A photo of a Curled Octopus (Eledone cirrhosa) sitting in a tide pool with its head and mantle out of the water. It is surrounded by mussels. Text in a black box says "unbothered. moisturized. happy. in my lane. focused. flourishing." A "live slug reaction" meme, except it is "Live Octopus Reaction" and the image is a low quality image of a glowing sucker octopus (Stauroteuthis syrtensis) Its arms are going out and down with its webbing out. Its fins are tucked in. It is staring at the camera as if you just caught it eating your potato chips at 3 AM. A blurry photo of a Curled Octopus (Eledone cirrhosa) in a shallow pool on a beach. The octopus is partially out of the water, with its head sticking out and facing forward to the camera. Its arms are spread out. The camera is almost level, slightly from above, so it almost looks like the octopus took the photo, although the photographer's reflection is visible. The beach is brown and muddy. The octopus is orange, with the part out of the water being shiny. A grey, transparent box with white text is going across the image to help make the image look like a Snapchat message. The text says "hey i think you accidentally left me on read haha"

Octopuses tend to be solitary, but the Friendly Octopus (Octopus laqueus) is one of the exceptions.

Although they prefer to be on their own, they are willing to tolerate other octopuses if it means they can have a den. I guess even cephalopods have to worry about having roommates...

#OCTOtober
A Friendly Octopus (Octopus laqueus) sitting on the left side of a rock. Its arms are together, but they go from the top of the rock to the bottom where there is an over hand. Its head is sticking upwards, especially its eyes, but its mantle is dangling down. It has its papillae raised, and it is beige with some dark orange, and it has some sea foam green, especially on its mantle and papillae. The rock is covered with some grey stuff, like algae covered in sand. There is some taller rocks to the left. A Friendly Octopus (Octopus laqueus) sitting on the sea floor. It is quite small, and it is a behind a rock that is slightly larger than it. The sea floor is covered in irregular small pebbles. The octopus has its arms in a messy pile and has its mantle handing down. It is mostly light brown with some brown and off white. The underside of its arms are slightly translucent and a desaturated purple colour. There are some thin sea plants in the background. A Friendly Octopus (Octopus laqueus) in a clear plastic. The octopus is in the corner looking out of the container. Its mantle and head is light brown with some light cyan around the eyes. Its arms are light brown and a slightly translucent white. It has two rows of suckers. It is quite small. The water is black, probably a night dive.
A Friendly Octopus (Octopus laqueus) peeking out of a wide crevice. It appears to be hanging from the underside of an overhang, then holding its head and mantle out and up out of the crevice. The arms are mostly hidden in the crevice. The octopus is white, and the surrounding terrain is a sandy beige.

In celebration of World Octopus Day, we wanted to revisit one of our favorite cephalopod sightings, the glass octopus — Vitreledonella richardi filmed during a month-long #PhoenixIslandsCoral expedition in 2021.

Do you have your party hat (anemone) ready?

Good morning to everyone but especially to all the octopuses, for today is their special day!

To celebrate World Octopus Day, here's an illustration of an octopus from the book 'The World of the Sea' by Moquin Tandon, published in 1869.

hands up if you are a true bug and suck sap from plants
Shivaphis celti, the Asian woolly hackberry aphid, also known as Shivaphis (Shivaphis) celti, is an aphid in the superfamily Aphidoidea in the order Hemiptera. It is a true bug and sucks sap from plants.

Pictured is schivapis celti, a small white bug that looks like a speck of lint, sitting on a leaf

I was backup octopus mom at work so I got to help bucket train Spaghetti the octopus, which is an important trained behaviour for a lot of useful and important reasons, as well as for the reason of it being the cUTEST THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN
A very small octopus that has climbed into a submerged bucket, it is so cute. Just unbelievably cute.

Sully was a monster and liked to fight over the target pole. There was no food on the target pole. He would get food when he let go of the target pole. He just wanted the target pole I guess so that he could let go of it whenever he wanted and unlock the infinite food hack

I heard it's #WorldOctopusDay so I MUST shared some of my favourite octopus ~memories~ like of Petunia, my darling, from whomst I still have some art

The Art The Artist
A framed painting in blue paint that is haphazardly splattered around the canvas and appears to have been very wet and then dried unevenly. Also a smaller piece of paper that has a print of octopus suckers in dark ink. A bright orange-red coloured giant pacific octopus suckered to the acrylic of an aquarium tank. She is staring directly at the camera from over her arm.

THANK YOU 🤣 this is the balm my soul needs after witnessing the horrors of those "octopus skeletons" in Halloween stores...
A sketch of an octopus with an inset photo of an octopus skeleton decoration. The octopus looks upset. It is surrounded by thoughts:
Help I'm full of bones how do you live like this
My eyes are stuck pointing in the same direction but frankly that's the least of my worries
I can't squeeze my mantle for jet propulsion :(
This body only had one shape!!
My arms are stuffed with muscles to move all these bones
Do I have suckers? I don't even care
