Raymond Avenue will never be the same. Chroma Zone Fest culminates tonight. Catalonia comes to Dual Citizen!
cezmsp.bsky.social
This year's Chroma Zone wraps up today - it doesn't mean it ends in general. (This confusion has happened in other years). There were a lot of events in the Zone today, and elsewhere in the Twin Cities. What a busy day! Lots of people out and about.

I forgot the start time — 6:00 p.m. Ends at 8:00.

Close to the Raymond Station Green Line stop + on the 63 67 and 87 bus routes. Parking behind the CEZ bldg and at nearby Gopher Plumbing (704 Vandalia) and the Wright Building (2233 University Ave). See you tonight! Rain or shine!

Charney's mural is a show-stopper as you enter the Creative Enterprise Zone from highway 280 or Franklin. Wundr's purple cat and friends greet people as they enter the Zone on Prior from Merriam Park. (Guzmán's is just north of Wundr's.)

Nationally known muralist Anna Charney is painting now (well, when it's daylight) at the corner of Franklin and Cromwell/highway 280. Amazing stuff! Check out her doodle grid at the bottom while it lasts. This all since Monday! Plus new murals by Andrés Guzmán and Wundr on Prior.
3-story mural being painted on tan commercial building, showing large blue ball with dots, purples and blues in flowing shapes behind. Close up near the ground of random-looking words and simple shapes painted as lines on the wall, which make a "grid" for the artist to use to outline the mural painting. Large mural of a woman's body floating in multicolored psychedelic-looking space. Patterns in the colors reminiscent of Central American traditions. Painted cartoon mural on a gray warehouse with purple cat holding flowers, pink mice, and a red bird perched on a bird house.

Chroma Zone events start tomorrow evening at Bang Brewing! And Anna Charney is painting NOW at the Triangle Bldg, corner of Franklin and Eustis (just east of highway 280). www.chromazone.net/festival-eve...

Rule 93: Direct Your Public Art budget to Blank Walls

Public art is often wasted on plaza sculptures. Cities should use art budgets for murals on blank walls, which, like trees, make streets more pleasant and welcoming.

New mural by Xena Goldman underway on Charles Ave just east of Hampden in Saint Paul! Very cool that you can see this mural and the earlier one by Wes Winship reflected in the big windows of the Wright Building.
Large mural of a neon green-skinned woman, seated with legs folded toward her chest. Pink long gloves, sunglasses, and white rain drops falling in the dark background. Large brick building with arched windows, two different murals reflected in the first floor windows.

New murals completed in the Creative Enterprise Zone for this year's Chroma Zone Mural Festival! Pablo Kalaka on Hampden Ave, just north of Territorial, and a long retaining wall by Mike Davis at Raymond and Charles.
Mural of a brown-skinned adult carrying a young child, both wearing hats. Adult has a long flowing cape and a backpack full of symbolic toys, including a house, guitar, llama, book. Colors are blue in background, earth tones in foreground. Large green leaves and checkerboard patterns in lavender blue and gray on a long low wall. Mural of a long neon pink snake winding through green leaves, then going through the eye hole of a knight's helmet.

St Paul; Minneapolis.
Industrial building with sign on the side reading "Welcome to the creative enterprise ZONE, St. Paul MN." It looks grimy and dilapidated because it's in St Paul and the photo was taken with Tri-X which makes everything look that way anyway. Minneapolis skyline, taken from the NorthEast, with the sun low enough that the tops of the buildings are illuminated but not the bottoms.

All of these are on private land, rather than in the public right of way, so negotiating with land-owners for other locations is ongoing.

New wayfinding signs are up in three locations (so far) in the Creative Enterprise Zone! At the north side of the Green Line's Raymond Station stop, at Charles and Raymond (new mural by Mike Davis going up in the background!), and at Hampden Park Co-op, Raymond and Hampden Ave.
Large public map of South St Anthony Park and far west Midway, St Paul, adjacent to Carleton Lofts and MetroTransit bus stop, Raymond Green Line station just out of sight to the left. Large public map of South St Anthony Park and far west Midway, St Paul, with partially painted mural on a retaining wall along a parking lot in the background. Large public map of South St Anthony Park and far west Midway, St Paul, in a planter bed next to the parking lot of Hampden Park Co-op, an older blond-brick building.
