This was the one Nu52 redesign that didn’t suck. And all the life left this run of Action Comics when it switched to Jim Lee’s atrocity.

We kept losing cast members. At one point the lighting designer said "they're dropping like flies!" And nobody laughed, because they *were*.

We did a production of Working in college. Only show I’ve worked on that I honestly think was cursed.

Truly excellent new piece by Lincoln Caplan in @harvardmagazine.bsky.social on John Roberts, seen in full.

Careful, meticulous, devastating case on how "institutionalist" has enabled destruction of crucial institutions. Including his now discredited court.

Quote:
Their outcomes, along with the Court’s actions in the last few years, carry the seeds of American tragedy. Roberts, often described as an institutionalist, has enabled the most hostile anti-institutionalist ever elected president. The leader of the nation’s judicial system has empowered the president who is the most disdainful in history of the decrees of judges, the provisos of the Constitution, and the workings of American democracy. The chief justice, attempting to thread the needle between principle and practicality, has opened the door to the possibility of the ultimate constitutional crisis: a president’s outright defiance of the Supreme Court.

That may be even better.

You’d think I’d be more of a fan of a show about an obnoxious Professor from New Hampshire who becomes president.

Everyone can set aside partisanship, psychologizing, pathologizing, whatever, and—I would hope—still see that it’s incredibly dangerous for a political leader to be this disconnected from the real conditions in the country.

Pennsylvania Republicans are aiming to erase Democrats' majority on the state supreme court in November.

But this sort of push has virtually no precedent or template in this state, making a weird campaign where everyone is trying to find their mark.

A great new read:

The GOP is making an expensive push to end Democrats’ majority on a court at the center of election lawsuits, sparking a fledging campaign season with little precedent or template.

One could probably argue that Whedon's characters tend to say funny things, while Gunn's tend to say things funny.

New Hampshire Republicans have long worried that Trump apparatchik Corey Lewandowski will curse their ballots. He's now threatening to challenge Gov. Kelly Ayotte in next year's GOP primary.

Badly scarred, and there was talk when it happened about how it would be hard to use, but pretty quickly it faded into the background in an example of either sloppy writing or (checks Tumblr) Thomas' indomitable inner strength of will.
