Mingjue waits, but Huaisang doesn't look up from his phone, where his fingers are typing quickly enough to put the fastest stenographers to shame. He leans against the doorframe of Mingjue's bedroom, offering no further context to the total non sequitur he just dropped on Mingjue, who was just about to crawl into bed for the night.

"Are you going to tell me why I should go to the police station?" Mingjue asks when Huaisang STILL refuses to give any details.

Huaisang rolls his eyes as if it is a dumb question. "Because they have er-ge."

Mingjue blinks at him a few times, waiting for the joke to land. "And why would they have Xichen?"

All he gets in response is a shrug and a chorus of "I don't know anything about it."
