I've never been interested in Swift album discourse, but this time it's really FASCINATING how poor modern media literacy is. If she doesn't say something intentionally racist or sexist, she couldn't possibly have done so unintentionally. That's how they think.

This is an unserious, but clear example, the new Taylor Swift album discourse. Some people are explaining how there are problematic lyrics and others are convinced that it's untrue because it's not blatantly obvious for them specifically. Like subtext and context don't exist.

Do they honestly think that any of the shady shit that the US does is exclusive to the US or was invented by the US? The idea that nothing in the world happens without direct US involvement is not the progressive stance that they think it is. Lecturing anything from Europe or the ME is audacious.

But he, as a person with surface level knowledge of US history, knows US history better than every single American and knows what we all think. My favorite is that we're too ignorant and stupid to know our own history, but they are completely free of their ancestor's colonizer mindset.

Hunting season is a big deal in more rural places that aren't RIGHT on the water where it switches to crabbing, fishing, oysters etc. If they think his hobby is weird, they shouldn't be talking about American politics with any kind of authority.

I generally see responsible hunting as more humane than factory farming. Most regular hunters eat what they shoot and it's out there living it's life the way it's supposed to during it's lifetime. Am I going to take up hunting? No, but this isn't the hill to die on.

That is exactly something my mom would say about not trusting a candidate. She's from PA and said that about Fetterman during the primary. That he clearly has no respect for that office if he can't dress up a bit for work. She was right!

That's what I thought immediately. Granted circumcision is pretty regular for American boys and men in general, so it's a stupid dogwhistle, but I was like, oh, that's an antisemitic dogwhistle. If I thought that and I'm not even Jewish? Holy shit.

The level of dehumanization. There is something essentially human missing from these racists. That poor man, I cannot imagine how scared and confused he was to be going through a health emergency surrounded by people who were making it worse intentionally.

Horrific. A 50-year old black man had a stroke & was confused from it. Cops didn’t want to “waste time” doing a thorough evaluation for a medical emergency, assumed it was drugs, & simply threw him in jail. He died
