The people dressing up in silly costumes at these protests and clergy showing up really reveal the lie at the center of their claims that they're the good guys stamping out violent crime. Hard to believe when they're teargassing a twerking unicorn and a preaching reverend.

Leo questioned a world where the wealth of the elite grows
"exponentially" while many "millions of people die of hunger or survive in conditions unfit for human beings." He also criticized "ideologies that defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation,"
with false promises "that a free-market economy will automatically solve the problem of poverty."

Leo described a "new tyranny," which shuns any kind of oversight and where the economy is structured "in such a way that sacrifices are demanded of the masses in order to serve the needs of the powerful." The poor, he wrote, are only allowed "drops that trickle down."

The pope openly challenged "prosperity theology" and called Christians to the practice of giving charity. "It will not solve the problem of world poverty, yet it must still be carried out, with intelligence, diligence and social responsibility," he wrote.

Popular movements that challenge "the empire of money," invite people to take on the cause to combat poverty alongside the poor, instead of on their behalf, and "make history," the pope said. It our duty, Leo said, to "make their voices heard, albeit in different ways, in order to point out and denounce such structural issues, even at the cost of appearing foolish or naïve."

These statements are the most alarming and dangerous of all of the extreme anti-abortion rhetoric Sears has normalized in the past. This time, her comments illustrate the ease with which she discusses and threatens violence against people seeking abortion care and the trusted clinicians who provide it.

Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:

“We call on Winsome Earle-Sears to retract this remark and to clearly and unambiguously condemn violence in all forms. Elected leaders have a responsibility to de-escalate and to protect the safety of Virginians, not to legitimize or amplify threats that put lives and livelihoods at risk.

Saying ‘when you are willing to kill a child up until the day that baby is born…murder is murder…one day, it’s gonna be your turn,’ is not political theater. Please please stop encouraging it by using it. They're trying to install a data center next to a school and neighborhood in a predominantly Black area not too far from me. This same area already suffered from environmental pollution of PFAs from a med factory/facility.
