If a breed trained to kill becomes redundant, so be it.
Funny how these killers get all sentimental over their ill-treated hounds.
😆
I had one in 2023 and last week - wondered why the recorder asked for a photo! My 10k square's barely been mothed before - gained new 20 species during my 1st training session back in June.

Up this week: Orobanchaceae. This family was, until the 21st century, conflated with the Scrophulariaceae, which itself was a jumbled mess. There are, however, anatomical, morphological & molecular characteristics for the family. Members are mostly parasitic. 📷: Castilleja coccinea #Botany 🌾🧪🌱
Photo of a green leafy herbaceous perennial with erect shoots terminating in bracteate inflorescences. The bracts are red and showy. Flowers are tubular, greenish with red tips. Photo by Scott Zona CCBYNC2.
👍 I get the meaning - just think this usage waters down and distracts from the prime meaning -we are living in a crisis of climate-driven ecosystem collapse.
12+ Blackbirds, 5 Song Thrushes and a Mistle here in our Borders garden, but none of the others!

They're stopping wind and solar because the president is an idiot who doesn't understand how anything works, doesn't try to learn, and assumes he knows more than all the experts about almost everything that he knows nothing about.

Also because Big Oil gives him lots of money.

Schatz: They’re stopping wind and solar because this guy has some very strange ideas about the energy mix. And it’s consistent with the rest of his political and economic philosophy — if there’s less of everything, it gives him more authority to dole out favors

Only 2 in the trap on Saturday but night before was better.

Another Merv and Chestnut, Y-LQ?, The Brick? (If so NF🔲) and a December moth.

I caught 11 December moths on 6/11/24 so still plenty of reason to get the traps out!

There's not been a natural history programme quite like it. Particularly impressive is his connection with people, from the lad doing his excited dance in the hide, to the gasps of delight from his nieces to the hug with adderman (which had me foggin ower 🥹). Also enjoyed seeing Simon King, too

Just watched the first episode of 'Hamza's Hidden Wild Isles' on BBC1.... outstanding. He is such a nice bloke and a natural at explaining his subject... a worthy successor to Sir David Attenborough ?
The whole series is available on the BBC iPlayer, well worth a watch. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Nothing wrong with that, John!

The image of you two really sells it for me, it's such a positive pic. No grim, studious faces, hand lenses or clipboards in sight, just the joy of natural history. It's why most of us do it 🙂

The seascapes are the big draw for me on #IslesofScilly

Someone here has shipped over Pheasants & Red-legged Partridges, swarming over the fields of Tresco today & being fed in this woodland. FFS.
Actually, he was just a bit of a prick!

Another mauling for John Swinney on his ludicrous currency proposals. This time, all he can do is accuse Martin Geissler of being overly gloomy, and suggest that Scotland’s renewables will somehow come to the rescue. Desperate and embarrassing stuff.
If another well-known App were to be believed, I had more Spotted Flycatchers in my garden this morning than Song Thrushes, and I saw a few thrushes!

Pope Leo quotes Hannah Arendt:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."

Headley Heath, Surrey: a Goshawk, 5 Hawfinch and a Crossbill, but highlight was the vast numbers of Harlequin Ladybirds on the wing. I brushed so many off me and my optics that at the end of the session my hands smelt strongly of their acrid defence ‘juice’ #UKBirding
