One of the things about this study is that a lot of baby and toddler books are written in house, by editors. So the study reveals the whiteness of editorial in kidlit even if not explicitly. But, big picture, this trend is unacceptable. I remember so many promises www.theguardian.com/books/2025/o...

Bertrand Russell once received letters from Sir Oswald Mosley, the founder of the British Union of Fascists, inviting him to a debate. Russell not only declined but replied quite generally that “nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.” @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social

Jordan Davis had the final FG block and return. Carter blocked a DIFFERENT field goal. What a wild game.

One insurance denial for Teressa's husband stated, “your newborn does not meet the criteria for coverage.”

“This is when I really start to think they’re just denying,” she recalled. “They’re not even looking. They’re just ‘deny, deny, deny.’”

Screenshot of article excerpt: Highmark refused to pay for the emergency medical treatment for the colon infection. In a bizarre twist, that denial letter listed her husband as the patient but made reference to the care of a newborn, not that of a 52-year-old man having a mental health crisis.

“It was determined,” the letter said, “that your newborn does not meet the criteria for coverage of an inpatient hospital admission.”

“This is when I really start to think they’re just denying,” she recalled. “They’re not even looking. They’re just ‘deny, deny, deny.’”

At the risk of getting too specific again, Maggie Kang's instinct to make teen girl characters with the capacity for multiple emotional tones--sometimes even two at the same time!--seems like the stronger explanation for the movie's resonating with audiences

this is an interesting idea re: marketing but i don't really agree with this and actually think Pixar's mistake has been over-reaching in trying to appeal to adults over kids in terms of tone and sensibility (along with a couple genuine duds quality-wise)
