When I speak to normies, I sometimes casually observe that in 100 years most people will be much richer than us and they systematically look at me as if I were a crazy person, which always takes me aback because I think that short of a catastrophic event like a generalized nuclear war or Skynet killing us all — neither of which is something normies think about - this should be the default expectation. I think it speaks volumes about how pessimistic the zeitgeist has become, which probably explains how risk-averse we are now and ironically will probably contribute to making our descendants less rich than they otherwise would have been.
