We live in cretinous times, and the cretins would appear to be winning. Join the resistance and read a book.

Ironically, they haven't even got the menace of the Lollipop Guild right.

Don't think much of the Lollipop Guild's costumes in this reboot.

Pharmacist giving me my £98 sodding jab yesterday was baffled by the cuts to who is eligible for free ones this year. 75+ and immunocompromised, but not if you live with someone immunocompromised, which is crackers.

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.

There’s a comment piece in The Times about sickness benefits mysteriously going up and no mention of Covid, long Covid, the effects of lockdown etc. Boosters help people stay healthy, but now they are only available to the very old or people who can afford them.

I did that last year and in process of doing that this year.
I remember that the guy at the pharmacy was so mortified that he even apologised. Being disabled is really expensive.

Too right. It's such a shame in Britain that we invest nothing in people's health, just a half-hearted effort to mop up the damage later. I'll do anything I can to avoid needing to use the health service in these times.

This makes me want to break things. If it's such a no-big (it actually is a big that fucking disabled me), and you're equating it to flu (again, not remotely like), then why aren't the prices comparable?

(They should be free but given that's not going to happen, well)

Also chronic asthmatic, I was last permitted a free covid jab in 2022. Now we're not worth protecting any more, only those of us with money to spare can protect our health each year. I'll pay whatever it costs but many can't. This is why I never stopped masking cos no one else gives a shit about us.

This is such a good point. I can't afford £100 for a covid booster. I could and would cheerfully pay £15 for one as I do flu. I also don't understand why so many aren't eligible for an NHS booster this year considering it didn't miraculously stop being covid over the summer

I have no disabilities, got COVID at the end of June for the (at least!) fourth time, lost my voice and have now been having vocal problems for 3-and-a-half months...I have an extremely expensive diagnostic session next week coz this is impacting my work, my mental health (obvs) and my future.

Reminds me of hearing about people heading up Ben Nevis in flip-flops... Terrifying.

Cool! I'm used to mixed finch flocks, but nice to know we have more variety than that. All in one rowan tree in a small garden.

Air temperatures, soil temperatures and reanalyses all agree on how the UK’s climate has warmed & varied over the past decades.

Don’t listen to the usual critics who try to claim otherwise…

We had long-tailed tits and chiffchaff yesterday in the garden, according to Merlin app. I didn't realise they were maybe flocking together, interesting...

Perfect hiking weather yesterday, walked from Moulin to the base of Ben Vrackie (not fit enough to go up yet).

Met Benny Gallagher once at lunch when I was a teenager. Can't say I remember a great deal about him.
