That’s such a vivid way to start, like you’re watching the movie in your head as it unfolds on the page. I imagine that kind of flow must make drafting exciting, since you’re discovering the story alongside the characters.
constantinstep.bsky.social
Honestly, there’s no single ‘right’ way, if blasting out a first draft gets the ideas flowing, that’s a win. I’ve found that sometimes the momentum from a fast draft brings out unexpected gems. Do you ever surprise yourself with scenes or characters that weren’t in the plan?
constantinstep.bsky.social
That makes total sense, I’ve had those ‘must write it now’ moments too, even if it means jumping ahead. Do you ever find those spontaneous scenes end up changing the direction of the story, or do they usually fit right into your original plan?
constantinstep.bsky.social
Fellow writers, when you’re deep in a scene, do you write it straight through from start to finish, or do you bounce around, drafting pieces out of order and stitching them together later?

Wow, the atmosphere here is incredible, I could practically feel the darkness and hear the dialogue between the Da’no’no Warriors. Can’t wait to see where this goes!

Do you map everything out beforehand, or let it unfold as you write?

#WedsStory [1/5] I hugged the walls, following the directions that Ki’shto’ba had given me, & came at length into the correct corridor. It was totally black and I cd not see a thing, but I could smell two Da’no’no Warriors & receive their words as they talked idly to each other.

Hello. I'm an indie #author based in Australia. I write fantasy/whodunnit fiction, following a fairy turned private eye and his allies. It's set in the Kingdom of Rychilla, where steam engines run on elemental magic.

Book 1, 'A Pinch of Distrust' is out and I'm currently working on a sequel.
Victorian-esque living room. In the background of the image a man sits dead in a chair, stabbed through the heart. In the foreground, a woman with natural navy-blue hair, a tall woman with silver hair and a fairy with green hair and dark wings study a document.

I didn't write The MoonQuest this year. I began writing it more than 30 years ago, and it was published in 2007. And while this story has always been relevant, I'm sorry to say that it has never been more timely than it is now. www.qntanabooks.com

I'm gonna spend a bit of time complaining about something (I try not to do this a lot). I really dislike content creators who spend a lot of time taking luxury trips only to primarily sh*t on the trips - especially when their trips are in part funded by the money they make from patrons/fans.

I promise I'm not having a nervous breakdown 😅
This book I'm working on has me thinking, you know, someday very soon, it'll be over. No more celebrities, no more influencers, no more advertising. Everything changes, all that stuff will end too.
It's already rattling now. Isn't that kind of magic?

So proud of this gorgeous vintage wraparound cover designed by Adrian Baldwin and illustrated by Mutartis Boswell. Brought to life by @demainpublishing.bsky.social #supportartists

Blue and red vintage wraparound cover for Corpse Road Blues by Eric Nash, published by Demain Publishing. Entering from the right-hand side in the foreground, skeletons walk away from the viewer in single file along a path. They are emerging from woodland and are heading toward the edges of a city which one can see on the left-hand side of the book. It is night, the moon casts an eerie blue light on the clouds overhead.

The title is in red at the top. The spine edge is also red. There is a cover blurb written by Rosemary Thorne (author of El Pacto de las 12 uvas) reads: "In his exquisite tapestry of terror, Eric Nash orchestrates an uncanny symphony that transcends the mundane, immersing readers in a realm where British sophistication and horror intertwine, making a significant impact in the context of modern dark fiction."

This is the only Jubilee I care about.
Jubilee of the X-Men, a young Chinese woman wearing huge pink shades on her forehead, a yellow trench coat, pink shirt and boots, and blue shorts and gloves, reading DAVID COPPERFIELD.

Caption box reads: LATER...
Jubilee: GACK! THIS BOOK IS ALMOST AS BORING AS SILAS MARNER!
continued: AND I DON'T GET IT—

Book marketing image.

On the left, a dark spooky scene with a brown wash over the colours of barren trees and the moon shining through a misty sky. The Blood Runner book cover appears on a paperback book, a tablet, and a smartphone over top of it. On the right, a quote from the book:

"I continued to let her have the soft voice in the dark. It was the only soft thing about me and all I could offer. 'You're not afraid of me.'

'No, Richard.' Her hand moved to splay her fingers over my lips, to feel the voice she couldn't see.

'Like a wolf with a sheep, girl. You should be.'"
