There’s been a lot of talk of aging and life stories this week, so for #FridayReads I would like to mention my autobiography, 41, my story of becoming a horror author, my mom’s passing at only 40 right after 9/11, and breaking cycles of trauma.

In every single episode, the Scooby Doo gang discover a human is behind the mystery, not ghosts or mummies or whatever. Yet they begin each new case believing the villain is a supernatural being. Every time. Not once do they say “maybe it’s an old man like last time”

None of this is spoilery, I spoke a bit about this project on The Lovecraft eZine with @michaeldylandavis.bsky.social, but Clay’s blurb for Bracken MacLeod’s book wound up my noodle and I may be hitting critical mass on yanking the right thread that brings this novel together.

Kitradu's segments will play out like the excerpts before each chapter in Dune, with religious text style "books" for each part of Kitradu's journey.

The Orthopaedist (1811)
Dear, Mrs. Butler (1901)
The Red Zone (1918)
The Flower Girl (2020's)

Emissaries II (before the village)
The Tail's Chair (the village)
The Curses of Kith'rel:Radu'al (the encounter)
Terminus (the Ghost speaks with Kitradu)

I thought this was about cocktails, and damn, give me like two or three cherries in an LIT, please? It’s like a treat at the bottom of the glass. It’s fun to try and tie the stem with my tongue (I’ve done it once maybe).

Happy Friday, Gabino and everyone!

I don't know about you, but by us the weather is finally getting that crisp autumn feel.

Whatever your weather, one of my novels will probably be the perfect pairing.

My two novellas against a starry background: THE NIGHT LIBRARY OF STERNENDACH: A VAMPIRE OPERA IN VERSE, and THE GLASS GARDEN. The first has batwings, fangs, and a book on the cover. The other has white letters on a kaleidoscope image.

My second novel, Pyres, dropped last Friday, and people are loving it so far. So, I'd be so happy for its brand of burning rage to find its way into more hands.

It also got this crazily wonderful blurb from Lee Murray🔥🔥🔥

Thanks, Gabino. My quiet folk horror, Harrowfield came out recently. #FridayReads

The pagan v the occult compete for newcomer to Harrowfield, Derwenna Parry, in the isolated borderline between Wales and England.

Full cover for Harrow field novel. Lower half a dark green, almost black, field, with a slushy green sky above. Front cover has a solitary tree sheltering two standing stones. Back cover shows a standing stones and two ravens flying above.

Getting things accurate is fun for me. I WANT my reader to wonder if this thing is real. Setting fiction solidly in some fact—I think—makes it more fun for both writer and reader. The writer gets to play with history while also (potentially) urging a reader down a fun rabbit hole alongside the text.

Trump has an event about drug pricing this afternoon after his visit to the doctor. Do you think one of his aides might explain to him before it that drug prices cannot in fact fall by more than 100 percent?

(This is a rhetorical question.)

As someone else said about Stitt here in Oklahoma, (paraphrasing) being less awful is still awful. She’s no saint now.
Something really hit her meeting the Epstein survivors, though. She sounds different. I know people can change. It would be wonderful to see change.
