Thank you to everyone who has bought Skin Thief or Countess, or requested either at the library or written a review about them. You are keeping me writing. Literally. As a new long form writer every single sale matters. I want to write more books for you! I'm writing another right now! 🖤🙏

In self-interest but also general interest, folks: Black Friday is coming up, and small publishers/independent creators will always be a better choice than megacorps.

When the sales drop, please remember that!

Look, I am very small potatoes as an author. I make too little in royalties to live off them. But I can tell you the reason I got to write my 2nd book was bc the sales of the 1st were very good. That's what else you're eating into by pirating, our ability to keep writing what you claim to love.

These Gemini ads on youtube are weird. It's like: type panadas in high fashion (or something) and it shows you pandas walking down a catwalk in high fashion.

like okay so what?

What does it mean? what does it have to do with anything? sure you can conjure anything but who cares? Just nonsense.

This is interesting. As a teenager, I read A LOT but I didn't have a TBR like the way its conceptualized now. I had no one telling me I should or must read anything except at school. I knew there were "classics lists." But I just browsed the library lit and horror sections. I try to be random still.
The one thing I really miss about the 'older world' is browsing library stacks, and card catalogues. However much I appreciate databases and retrieving what I want in moments, the serendipity of 'the book next to the one I wanted' and 'the article in the same issue' cannot be replicated. #Libraries

i just reviewed 50+ applications for an arts award and most of them were written by chatgpt. And then the other reviewers said they put them into Gemini to rank them. At a certain point, if everyone is giving their thinking entirely over to AI, why are we even bothering with any of this anymore?

Been thinking about that thread on sincerity and a repeated occurrence with people:

Them: Hailey, check this out, it's so gross, you'll love it

Me: Oh, thanks. I'm not really into gross stuff, but I'll look

Them: But ... you write gross stuff

Me: I don't think so. I think it's beautiful

Them: 😐

I realized that I would regret not trying to write. I had so much emotion pent up inside me, writing became the pressure valve. After I started writing I realized that I did not want to die not trying to share my stories with other people who were also isolated and lonely and queer.

And weave that spell that pulls me under
These moonlight desires haunt me
They want me, they want me..
