Art Nouveau is when stuff looks like it was made by Elves.

Art Deco is when stuff looks like it was made by Dwarves.
An Art Nouveau staircase decorated with curved patterns and soft colors, with a nature-themed background and rounded windows on the walls. Art Deco staircase. An angular, grand design in dark colors.

I read an interesting factoid and decided to do a little digging. This is a chart of female suicides in the US per 100,000 residents. See that MASSIVE drop from 7.4 in 1970 to 5.7 in 1980? It kind of lines up with the meme I've seen.

1970 is when no-fault divorce first became legal in the US.
A line chart of female suicides in the US from 1950 to 2023. There is a noticeable drop from 7.4 per 100,000 residents in 1970 to 5.7 in 1980, with a continuous drop until the early 2000s, with the number peaking at 6.2 in 2018.

Thanks to Trump we're grading on a curve and that raises Jimmy's stock immensely.

I'm going to buy a peanut farm and lay the deed to it on Jimmy's grave. The US has done this man in dirty and I won't stand for it.
ostrichson.bsky.social
No, I'm too vigilant for that.

Kinda weird that so many conservatives hate it. It's what saved their lives.

Whenever someone asks me: "May I have your name, please?" I start to hit them while yelling: "YOU WILL NOT GET ME THAT EASILY, FAE BASTARDS!" I have been arrested many times. I am drowning in lawyer fees. It's tearing my family apart. Please advise.

Can't find it anymore (went on a bit of a research spree; lost track of time/tabs). Something about the legalization of no-fault divorce leading to a drop in male poisonings and female suicides.

Yeah, the meme said that as well but it proved difficult to research. The drop in suicide rates is hard data, though. Of course, it probably was caused by so many different factors buuuuuut no-fault divorce? Was probably a big one.

The question is, if John Carpenter HAD secretly directed The End of Evangelion, would we have noticed?
ostrichson.bsky.social
Yeah, that often happens. Such an early diagnosis really hits you like a Trollhammaren.

This is your periodical reminder that if you're over 40, you should get yourself tested. You should check if you're actually a fan of folk metal. It's simple. You just watch this vid and if you feel anything in the realm of OH DAMN or HELL YEAH, the diagnosis is positive:

I have similar feelings about Victor Hugo.

OH, LOOK AT ME, I'm Victor fucking Hugo, I'm describing an unimportant character that nobody will remember with some of the most beautiful uses of language in the history of humankind because I'm just that fucking good.

You ever admire someone's talent so much, you low-key start to hate them?
From Chapter 1 of Les Misérable:

"Mademoiselle Baptistine was a long, pale, thin, gentle creature; she
realized the ideal expressed by the word “respectable”; for it seems
that a woman must needs be a mother in order to be venerable. She had never been pretty; her whole life, which had been nothing but a
succession of holy deeds, had finally conferred upon her a sort of
pallor and transparency; and as she advanced in years she had acquired what may be called the beauty of goodness. What had been leanness in her youth had become transparency in her maturity; and this diaphaneity allowed the angel to be seen. She was a soul rather than a virgin. Her person seemed made of a shadow; there was hardly sufficient body to provide for sex; a little matter enclosing a light; large eyes forever drooping;—a mere pretext for a soul’s remaining on the earth."
