Congratulations to all my fellow nominees. It's an honor to be nominated with you. And THANK YOU to everyone who has read and supported my feisty book, especially in these times.

All desperate to use Chatgpt to write a book so they can say they wrote something but my English degree is the rip off.

Okay sure Jan.
sillysyntax.bsky.social
"An English degree is a rip off" said by the people who are currently ripping everyone off. They don't want you to be literate, to understand the context, the references or the rhetoric they are using to scam you.

A rip off for THEM. If you can read, write and parse meaning, you're harder to fool.
sillysyntax.bsky.social
some ppl who said this to me later asked me to help them write their cover letter, resume, edit their answers for applications.

Ppl who feel the same now are stealing the books and stories I wrote, which I used my knowledge of English lit to write, because cash.

Oh no we can't write email so hard!

Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

Today is pub day for Tell Me Yours, I’ll Tell You Mine! However much writing can be a solitary act, putting a book out definitely isn’t. Thanks to Stillhouse Press and all of Tell Me Yours’ many champions.

My first book is out now. I hope you like it.

I am also feeling uneasy...in a this is not going to go down well way.
sillysyntax.bsky.social
I have learned that people will be disappointed about anything and often for things you do not predict, even if it is the same genre. But also ppl who liked my novella, picked up my collection...so it doesn't only work one way! You find new ppl every time! Keep doing you.

this is a great write-up of actionable tips for organizing zinefests, and also captures some of what I've enjoyed about the zinefests I've been part of. zine-centric fairs have absolutely been my best experiences as an author & creator.

That sounds very good! You've got everything you need!

We are all not starting the with the same level of risk. We are all not starting at zero. He might be starting close to zero, I don't know him but marignialized people are already at a higher level of risk then him he's the one lagging but achiving equality here, feels like inequality to him.

The choice of the phrase "No skin in the game is really ironic." My skin is always in the game. Always.

This take from him is really illuminating. He fundamentally doesn't understand that existing is a risk in this system. He can walk outside and he can choose "risk" or not. That is not the case for many people. There is no choice, the baseline is risk and that's decided by others.

Since I'm going to be broke as a joke for a little while, I'd love to get some work. I'd love to do covers but I do fantasy maps and pinups too. Or if you just want to help out, here's how:

Storm from the X-men in a night sky with a lightning bolt striking her outstretched right hand. The Marvel comics villain Taskmaster in the conspiracy wall meme pose. His wall has pictures of other Marvel characters and papers with items and subjects from the Marvel universe. Four older women in their fifties stand menacingly on a staircase. The closest on the left is in a pink shirt and jeans, holding a gun. She has white hair, fair skin and green eyes. The woman on the right is of persian decent and is holding magical fire in her left hand. The next closest on is Black with a blue shirt and jeans.  She's adjusting her glasses. The woman farthest away is grinning wildly up with an orange aura around her. In a dark ominous cave three Black women adventurers walk along while a huge spider lurks behind them. The woman closest to the viewer is dressed like a warrior with a west African styled sword and purple, brown, and red outfit. She holds a lit torch. The woman in the middle is very short, wielding a large ornate axe and wearing furs and leathers. The woman to the rear is an elf, holding a glowing staff and in a blue gown with a collar that looks vaguely Egyptian. On the ceiling behind them the spider is brown and tarantula-like. The light shines off its many eyes.

You can make a little intro for yourself, thank everyone for coming and then read the piece. If it's short you can read another one. When ppl have to stand I try to keep watch of the time. And then mingle and talk with ppl and sign books. also remember anyone there is there to cheer you.
sillysyntax.bsky.social
How much time do you have? How long will it take to read the piece? Does the store have seating for the audience?

If you don't want to do the whole deal by yourself, you can get a friend to introduce you, you can read the piece and then have a little conversation about the work. Alternatively +

Absolutely do it! Wishing you all the luck!
