Happened again; Emergency callout to a venue and brought a coworker with me to show him the fault. Client spent the first few minutes explaining to him what was wrong whilst ignoring me. After a while he asked what my coworkers thoughts were and he replied "Oh im here to learn, shes here to fix it"

Had this accidentally happen once in a DnD campaign because we realised a pathfinder spell a guy was using had wording like that.
Bad News: He was wearing several horns of gunpowder on his chest at the time
Good News: Explosions were pure fire damage as well
Bad News: He didn't have spare clothes

I also feel like hearing about a man having done something terrible and responding with “Yeah, that’s how men are” and nothing else kinda neglects the fact that men do, in fact, have a choice to not be shitty, and this one chose to be shitty. It just feels like “boys will be boys” but for leftists

Kinda wild how some people will insist that it’s something inherent to being a man to be an abusive maniac and a sexual predator. Like yeah, men are societally encouraged to be like that, and I acknowledge that. Doesn’t mean it’s something inherent about testosterone or whatever lol

This is it. I didn’t find it at all difficult to leave Twitter in the end: it stopped being fun and became boring and depressing. Whenever I opened it I’d see things that were obnoxious or upsetting. It was a relief not to do that.

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.

Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.
