Honestly, it’s exhausting that people think Gazans should only ask for help to survive to eat, to stay alive but not to dream, to study, or to rebuild their lives. Wanting education, safety, and a future isn’t greed. It’s being human.

Came to the same conclusion myself - my son left school the first week of 11th grade. He got his GED and has blazed his own trail since. He’s now 21, happy, confident, & working as an EMT. Says he might want to go to nursing school in the future (!!)
I’ve learned so much from his courage.

Can’t stop thinking about the level of cursed a moment in time has to be in order to produce a factual sentence like “Portland Frog pepper-balled by ICE agents”

Likes to condescend about people using the word fascism too. He’s become a parody of himself.

I was in middle school when that album was released. Wore out the cassette, bought it again on CD a few years later. I was too young to truly understand those lyrics, but I could *feel* them. Little did I know how often I’d be reaching for her music or that song in particular, all these years later.

My theory is that the Great Consolidation of streaming apps has begun. By the time it’s over, they will have reinvented cable TV.

I’m supposed to believe both that trained and paid journalists couldn’t see through Project 2025 spin but also they’re the people best positioned to tell me what’s happening and how I should feel. Why? They failed at their jobs by their own admission.

Whenever I leave a visit with an incarcerated client, I don’t say goodbye or see you later or have a nice day. I tell people to “take good care”.

Taking good care - of ourselves and each other - also happens to be the way we weather this storm, and the method by which we prevail.

I took a screen shot of this post yesterday - have a feeling we’re all gonna need it in the coming days and weeks.

The fascists are going to attempt to shock and awe the nation here shortly. Do not freeze. Do not fall into the despair they will seed.

Folks, you can't report the United States to its manager. There's no superhero coming to save us.

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

Just clownish evil all the way down. My god …

Carr: We're going to back to that era where local TV stations, judging the public interest, get to decide what the American people think…

I don’t think this is the last shoe to drop… the consequences will continue to flow.

You know what? I’m not going to fight with you about who has it worse - it’s counterproductive and hurtful to all of us. Thank you for your continued activism. I hope you can find some compassion for younger generations as they try to navigate these times.

Same here. Seems to be a subset of older folks who enjoy denigrating young people, this has always been true. There are a lot of USians of all ages engaging in various levels of activism right now. I think ppl are, by and large, doing the best they can.

Probably squashed by despair at the rampant gun violence, poverty, oppression, abuse of state power, exploitative capitalism, and multiple civilizational threats converging on them as they enter adulthood. The world we’re leaving to them is terrifying, can put a damper on the activist spirit.

Love this, I am going to show her.

Truly. It’s been a journey. Was even harder for my dad, a Vietnam vet who truly bought into the American myth. The first Trump admin nearly destroyed him, as he slowly realized that his entire belief system was built on a lie. He died in 2023-I don’t think he would’ve been able to handle Trump II.

I’m absolutely not joking. And yes, it probably would.

This was my take too. My mom has led a life of absolute privilege, so it has been a lot of work to try to get her to even begin to understand what people are going through in the US. I don’t want her to live in total fear, but I saw this moment as a move in the direction of empathy on her part.
cultofmany.bsky.social
lol, now this would be an excellent use of her time, not to mention an effective strategy. These elderly ladies are not to be trifled with!
cultofmany.bsky.social
While I agree with you for the most part, I’m willing to give my elderly mom a pass. The boomer denial is strong, & I see the growing awareness as a win. She has lots of friends, they’re all centrist Dems and they will all be talking about what they’re slowly awakening to see. Seems like a net good.

I think you might be right about this. My 75yo mother is irate about this and is, at long last, beginning to understand what’s happening. She told me she wanted to write a letter to ABC to tell them how upset she is, then quickly changed her mind. “It’s not safe to do than anymore, is it?”

The type of speech most punished in this society is that which consists of telling the truth about how the powerful have harmed you

The free speech crusaders are at it again.

you don’t have to have a take on everything but i will say for the record that gavin newsom’s “continue his work” post is one of the more disgusting things i have ever seen considering that the dead man in question wanted at least ~2.8 million americans eradicated & believed empathy was a sin.
