I've lots of great memories of conventions, panels, meeting authors, reading amazing stories - the list goes on. I always joked that my mom knows *everybody*. But with 35 years of On Spec, plus being in the sci-fi/writing community before that?

A *lot* of people are sharing this and mentioning On Spec published their first story, which I think it a beautiful statement on how important On Spec is. I remember even when a story was rejected, they gave advice and encouragement. 2/

I grew up with On Spec. The magazine is only 6 years younger than me, and my mom was always on the editing team(a majority of the time the Managing Editor). I even did my time in the Spec mines, doing admin work because nepotism can be fun. 1/
