A thread of threads of things I like seems like a good use for a pinned post. If you come across my profile and want to know more about me, here's a few things

We moved back to Houston from Dallas earlier this year and yeah, it sucked hard. But the only way is through. I just kept telling myself that once the day came we'd be ready because there wasn't another choice and then it would be over. I would like to never do it again, though, please

Lawyers have in their code of ethics a "duty of candor" meaning basically that it is unethical to lie even by mistake and you can lose your license over it. Cops have no such duty and are happy to lie all the time. Popular media portrays one of these groups as untrustworthy scumbags. Not that one!
davidw1457.bsky.social
I wonder if there is any connection between the fact that cops are encouraged to lie to suspects to get confessions and convictions and the fact that cops lie to everyone 🤔

At a press conference today, the mayor of Everett said there was a knife found in the child’s possession but *no* gun. I followed up with ICE and asked if they stand by the screenshot shared yesterday. Spokesperson said DHS was working on a response. Five hours later, still nothing.

This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:

He had to be laughing when he wrote this.

From Doctor Aphra #1. Words by Kieron Gillen, art by Kev Walker, color by Antonio Fabela, letters by VC's Joe Caramagna
Doctor Aphra attempts to distract some thugs by pointing and shouting "Oh no, it's the Death Star!" When this fails she says "Sorry, my mistake. Trick of the light. It was the moo--" but is cut off by a blow from one of the thugs
davidw1457.bsky.social
You think Kieron Gillen was giggling when he wrote the phrase "Rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra"? Cuz I sure laughed when I read it.

From Doctor Aphra #1
Rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra is no stranger to risk in the pursuit of both credits and throws; from her recent acquisition of a pair of homicidal droids, to her ever-increasing debt to Wookie warrior Black Krrsantan, and most of all, her secret work for Darth Vader, Imperial enforcer and Dark Lord of the Sith.

In retrospect, the most unbelievable thing about the original Marvel Civil War is the idea that blowing up a school would lead to legislation. In Millar's defense, it was 6 years before Sandy Hook showed what a silly idea it was

It was nitro and he blew up a school

I am covering EVERY First Person Shooter EVER made in Japan.

From 1985 to 2025, that's over 40 years and 70 games of gaming history.

This was without a doubt the most ambitious video I've ever made.

Trump: Just got back from the Middle East. What a point in time it was!!! The crowd for Charlie K's Presidential Medal of Freedom presentation is so big and enthusiastic that I moved it out to the new Rose Garden, where everyone can see the Presidential Wall of Fame and the Palm Court renovation. Enter through Main South Entrance.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

RIP D'angelo. Black Messiah is a top 5 of all time record.

Also, it's a pretty shitty metaphor for civil rights. Some mutants are powerful enough to destroy the entire planet and one of the "good" guys is constantly controlling people with his mind. Yeah, that's freaking terrifying, unlike "people with a different skin color"

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

Nobody should pay more than $19.95 for Clue under any circumstances, but good Lord that's lovely

Box Art from CLUE*

Clue or Cluedo goes back to Britain in WWII, subjected to the anxiety of blackouts and air raids. Anthony Pratt, a musician and factory worker, and a fan of Agatha Christie, and his wife Elva, fashioned the game to pass the time, originally called Murder

We ran into this while trying to figure out what dosage of an OTC cold medicine was safe during pregnancy. The AI summary confused the dosages of two different meds and returned incorrect info. Luckily I didn't trust it and went directly to the sources and got the correct info 😳

I'll note for the party that thinks there is no right to abortion, the words "trans", "gender", "school", and "parent" appear nowhere in the Constitution 🙄 This constitutional argument is clear horse shit
mjsdc.bsky.social
Alito, joined by Thomas and Gorsuch, suggest that public schools violate the Constitution when they help a student transition (by acknowledging them as trans) without their parents' knowledge or consent.

Would force schools to out trans kids to their parents. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
JONATHAN LEE, ET AL. v. POUDRE
SCHOOL DISTRICT R–1
ON PETITION FOR WRIT OF CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED
STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE TENTH CIRCUIT
No. 25–89. Decided October 14, 2025
The petition for a writ of certiorari is denied.
Statement of JUSTICE ALITO, with whom JUSTICE
THOMAS and JUSTICE GORSUCH join, respecting the denial
of certiorari.
I concur in the denial of certiorari because petitioners do
not challenge the ground for the ruling below. But I remain
concerned that some federal courts are “tempt[ed]” to avoid
confronting a “particularly contentious constitutional questio[n]”: whether a school district violates parents’ fundamental rights “when, without parental knowledge or consent, it encourages a student to transition to a new gender
or assists in that process.” Parents Protecting Our Children, UA v. Eau Claire Area School Dist., 604 U. S. ___,
___–___ (2024) (ALITO, J., dissenting from denial of certiorari) (slip op., at 1–2) (citing Troxel v. Granville, 530 U. S.
57, 70 (2000) (plurality opinion)). Petitioners tell us that
nearly 6,000 public schools have policies—as respondent allegedly does—that purposefully interfere with parents’ access to critical information about their children’s genderidentity choices and school personnel’s involvement in and
influence on those choices. Pet. for Cert. 24. The troubling—and tragic—allegations in this case underscore the
“great and growing national importance” of the question
that these parent petitioners present. Parents Protecting
Our Children, 604 U. S., at ___ (slip op., at 1).

The X-Men as persecuted minorities require too much suspension of disbelief in the regular Marvel universe where like 5% of the population of New York City has super powers and nearly everyone is cool with it. It's dumb and they should have been a separate universe
