Incredibly unfair to all the 2nd year students and clinical psychology students who have spent months preparing their applications - changes to this year’s NSF GRFP don’t allow Y2 or clinical psychology students to apply… www.nsf.gov/funding/oppo...

Finished WARN-D data collection, all cohorts/waves. Cleaning & deidentifying data now so we can share w research community.

First look at compliance rates: left 3mo EMA data, right baseline + follow-ups. Super happy with this.

Thx to @rayyantutunji.bsky.social for quick graphs.
3 months EMA data (4 timer per day), in 4 cohorts of students in the Netherlands that started November 2021 and then half a year later each. 24 months of data, baseline + follow ups every 3 months, in 4 cohorts of students in the Netherlands that started November 2021 and then half a year later each.

The psych job market may not be dead... but it is gravely injured 😬 So far it's looking like the Trump administration's attacks on higher ed/research are going to have more than 2x the impact on the job market as the covid-19 pandemic. #psychjobs #neurojobs #academicjobs
Bar plot showing the number of psychology jobs posted each year by area. There are major dips in 2020 due to covid, and in 2025 (now).

I prefer to tackle nuanced debates over a pint in a pub ;) Hopefully you’ll let me visit you next summer when I come to Japan for SPR and I can buy you one (a pint, not a pub)

Now that we're done with that... Toshi my friend... help a tired parent out! I've got 2 classes to teach, grants to submit, papers to write, and 999 other things I'm late on. Stop trying to drag me into academic social media drama 😂. I'm just here to lurk 👻, celebrate people, & avoid the "real news"

2/2 ... work in this space. Although I have my opinion, I don't know which approach(es) will ultimately move the needle, so as long as funders & the field don't ONLY pursue imaging & genetics research, I'll be happy no matter which line of work moves the field forward & improves patient outcomes
depressionlab.bsky.social
1/2 Imaging & genetics are not my area of expertise so I wouldn't be the right person to weigh in. As you know, my lab's work (@personalizedtx.bsky.social) focuses on behavioral interventions / psychological + digital therapeutics space. That said, I have colleagues & collaborators doing exciting...

A sampling of the slides… I’ll say this though - I’ll never teach a class on evidence based psychotherapies without praising Dianne and Steve for that original 1992 paper. We can respect our history while also teaching students about the present (and future)!
depressionlab.bsky.social
Don’t worry Toshi - I had lots of other slides on ways we build evidence, including two from your IPDs. It’s important to teach the history though too.

Taught this in my undergrad class Thursday too… apologized to the students ahead of time for all the name dropping…

Trump admin planning to change student visas from lasting for duration of academic program to fixed 4-yr term, and then much harder to renew
Could destroy US ability to attract global talent, particularly those seeking advanced degrees in STEM. The median time to complete a PhD is 5.7 yrs per NSF.
Trump Deals A New Immigration Blow To International Students
Trump officials have proposed a new rule limiting international students to fixed periods of entry, making a U.S. education more precarious.

It’s been a long time coming.

To commemorate August 2024, we celebrate one era at a time, each with a wonderstruck study and a sparkling canine mind.

Welcome to The Mind Tour, Dogs’ Version! 🎉
A grid of twelve portraits of different dogs, each on a colorful background, styled like a concert poster. Each dog represents a different "era" in a fictional tour called The Mind Tour, Dogs’ Version. In the center, one dog wears a denim jacket, evoking a headlining artist. The bottom of the image features large bold text that reads: "DOGS’ VERSION – THE MIND TOUR." The design is inspired by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour visuals, reimagined with dogs.
