Absolutely blown away by this review in this month’s Shindig! It makes me want to buy my own record!
DIMORPHODONS

Waui

HAND OF GLORY LP/CD/DL

The long-awaited debut album proper from Dimorphodons (aka Will Twynham) filters psychotropic pop smarts through a whole galaxy of mad clattering drums, keening disembodied voices, Flo & Eddie screams, buzzsaw shards of brain-shattering fuzz and feedback, shimmering hall of mirrors keyboard parts, thuggish glam-disco stomps, riffs the size of tectonic plates, blissed out harmonies, astral synth twiddles, sludgy slow-mo doom-stoner grooves, swoonsome spacey baroque flourishes, crystalline jangles, kaleidoscopic waves of overlapping melodies, animal noises, nosebleed-inducing levels of phasing, swooshing oceanic soundscapes and, in "Slave To Rough', an offhand, hilarious bone-dry gag about Status Quo's "Down Down' ("A record by the Status Quo/Not the worst one though").

Waur often has a lot of this going on simultaneously and is all that's good about psychedelia put into a cannon and fired point blank into your ears. It sounds like nothing else ever made, in the best possible way. Face-melting future psych genius.

Inspired by my Uncle’s similar behaviour when he was my age, I went and bought records I heard on John Peel’s show and quite liked. *Unfortunately* where he got like, Safe as Milk, I ended up with a Smart Went Crazy album that solidified my theory that music was better between 1965 and 73.

Haha yep. Currently on the hunt for the sticker from my Uncle’s copy. I think I remember seeing it as a kid, but it’s not in the record. Perhaps Lennon nicked it in his time machine
dimorphodons.bsky.social
Did you get the sticker separately or did it come in later pressings?

I like that I am learning about history *and* there’s no superfluous series ‘arc’ to distract from the running about and shouting
dimorphodons.bsky.social
Even though I watched every single episode last year, I cannot remember a thing about the Episode of Relic Hunter that’s currently on. That’s proper telly.

(tbf I think keenness for f*scism tapers off dramatically amongst people who have the mental ability to be interested in *anything* a bit off piste, it’s just Burns has a strong ‘I REMBUMBER GOODE OL DAYS’ appeal)

Leanings of 60s UK Guitar guys: Vox- Lefties, great record collections. Snappy dressers. Burns- would vote reform next time but they are ancient and four years is ages. Inflatable Hank Marvin sex doll in the loft. Fenton Weill- Luxury Communism, small batch cheese, Ealing comedies.

Was there more of a general understanding in the past that pop music was pop music and the best songwriters of their generation were probably penniless pissheads schlepping from gig to gig in a wrecked ice cream van or did people say that stuff about like, Jacko and The Eagles too?

Anyone after a copy of this? £25+post. UK rough trade original, VG+ sleeve Ex record, great copy

Bollock all for me again, I just submitted a ‘please notice this radio play’ form, cos I had a five minute plus radio two play in 2023, that’d be a fair old whack. Does that work?
dimorphodons.bsky.social
ah nice! Also love that BD Album! I’ll check out the other two
dimorphodons.bsky.social
Not a clue, well before my time. Just put a record out by a band who all went to see Hendrix there, so I *could* ask

had a quick look on worldradiohistory and found this: hours of fun

I finally got my hands on a copy. To coincide with my ears being completely blocked so it'll have to wait a few days. Thank you @dimorphodons.bsky.social

I remember wanting it back in the days of the RRPG - 35 for the stereo and 70 for the mono, and thinking ‘yep that’s great I’d spend some of my student loan on this’, and then never seeing it.

Madly, that’s not at all bad haha…

‘Would you have still released my album if I’d been a r*ght wing arse’ is a wonderful message to receive from an old fella whose music you’ve put out. Quite possibly not is the answer, or at least, with much less enthusiasm.

RIP Chris Dreja, player of the other guitar while we were busy listening to whoever was deemed more important than the rest of the Yardbirds at the time.
Here’s just one track he made happen at least as much as Jeff Beck did.
