Has the American stock market been good during Trump's second reign? Not at all compared to nearly every other stock market in the world, @bloomberg.com reports (gift article): www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Check a ranking of the best-performing equity indexes this year and the US doesn't crack the Top 10. You won't find it in the Top 25, either. Double that, and the S&P 500 is still absent. The tally needs to unfurl all the way to 66 before the world’s most valuable equity index shows up - leaving it way behind Greece’s Athex and even Israel's TA-35. It's one of the worst relative performances since the global financial crisis for the US benchmark.

That's an amazing photo. I think four is the max I've seen - and that's in one of those giant front-basket Urban Arrow ones

Apparently these sort of e-motorbikes have really taken off in Kenya since I was last there. Must cheaper to run and more reliable than the old "boda boda" petrol powered ones

No I didn't! That's amazing

Incidentally (this time deliberate), I also have a (free) substack that I use - if I remember - to send out (sadly not free) links to my stories and sometimes a few more thoughts - feel free to sign up here: danielknowles.substack.com/p/why-ebikes...
Why e-bikes are more important the EVs
Bikes can actually transform cities in the way driverless cars promise

Incidentally - a photo I took while in Montreal of the REV Saint Denis. One for the crowd who say bike lanes don't work for people with kids or for the disabled

Yeah I think transport gets into culture wars because it's just such a large part of how people live, and habits die hard. If you've driven to work your whole life it's quite hard to consider switching. And like so many things there's a generational factor - lots more young people not driving
dlknowles.bsky.social
The piece does basically say that at the end!

Reupping this, my nice happy story about why bicycles are revolutionising transport

If you're a retailer with a relatively small markup, your "value add" relative to your total revenue might be quite small, and cash handling is not free. Obviously if you run a service business like a restaurant, or have quite high margins, I'm not so sure
dlknowles.bsky.social
Doesn't fix it but reduces the return, I guess - because it's much less worth it for small businesses if you can't deduct the VAT on your inputs

this tipped me off to londoncentric.media and, boy, their stuff is really good even if you don't particularly care for London. Why? Because it's laser-focused on *the money* - who is getting paid and how for various aspects, especially the shady ones, of urban life.

This video is everywhere because it's a hilarious visual refutation of Portland being on fire. You can't get a mass movement going without convincing the masses

so yes, this does do something actually

This literally does nothing. You are not beating fascism by dressing up in inflatable suits and dancing

Portland is leading the way. This is how you (non violently) beat Fascism. Humor and ridicule are key.

Among other updates, ICE/DHS were told -- again, this time by a judge -- to remove the fence around ICE Broadview. It was still up when I left at noon. And as this story reports, today IL Sens Duckworth & Durbin were denied entry, as other local officials have been for weeks.
