the klingon warrior culture is a fucking disease, honor cultures are means of social control designed to turn a man into a thing

Like I get that we need a new term for "hermaphrodite", but please pick, like, anything else

Another clip edited for me by @nyara.vtube.social - and featuring @sylfaniavt.bsky.social and @maevemoradin.bsky.social!

Sounds like you're attached to the Buddhism game, buddy.

”im addicted to this Buddhism game” —things someone who is good at buddhism would say???

due to Berserk and how it inspired Dark Souls, tons of people have INCORRECT opinions about two handed swords, which are actually insanely classy, ludicrously feminine weapons

Spider silk isn't THAT impressive - it's slightly less strong than kevlar, but tougher than it

So futuristic ultra-high-molecular-weight polymers probably beat it
docvivileandra.bsky.social
And if you want something insane for "godtech"-level materials you have non-baryonic shit like magmatter, quantum chromodynamic matter, and up-down quark matter, which we will probably never have the technology to actually make lmao

a yuri between 2 different types of steel
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Every sci-fi author tries to come up with a material "more advanced" than steel, as if steel is a single material with a single set of properties and not, like, hundreds of different materials that we are still advancing and improving

The more advanced equivalent of steel is just better steel lol
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Cermets are also really cool and deserve a special shout out but they're covered under the nanostructured composite part
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Anyways the real "supermaterials" you should be using in scifi are superalloy steels, anisotropic nanostructured composites, ultra-high-molecular-weight polymers, and geopolymer ceramics/cements
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Actually the best modern steel to make a sword out of is the spring steel we make railways out of (this is what modern sword-makers usually use)

You want some elasticity in a sword
docvivileandra.bsky.social
It's especially funny when they say things are made of titanium because they heard it was THE STRONGEST METAL, when titanium is actually totally inappropriate for the use case and ordinary, modern steel would do better (looking at you, Halo lore, using titanium for TANK ARMOR)
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Like medieval steel was worse than the cheapest steel you've ever seen in the modern day and "steel" is basically an entire subfield of materials science, we haven't gotten close to the best steel could possibly be

I like theories that "plasteel" or whatever is just a future steel alloy lol

Yeah, formal names for any chemical that is:

- Complicated in structure
- Not one of the complex structures common enough to get a single name to refer to it

Tend to be insanely long and complicated, since you're fully describing the molecule in question
docvivileandra.bsky.social
Yes, though it does occasionally result in having to write out names like 2-(14-hydroxypentadecyl)-4-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-carboxylic acid
