Every sci-fi author tries to come up with a material "more advanced" than steel, as if steel is a single material with a single set of properties and not, like, hundreds of different materials that we are still advancing and improving

The more advanced equivalent of steel is just better steel lol

It's especially funny when they say things are made of titanium because they heard it was THE STRONGEST METAL, when titanium is actually totally inappropriate for the use case and ordinary, modern steel would do better (looking at you, Halo lore, using titanium for TANK ARMOR)

Like medieval steel was worse than the cheapest steel you've ever seen in the modern day and "steel" is basically an entire subfield of materials science, we haven't gotten close to the best steel could possibly be

Yeah, formal names for any chemical that is:

- Complicated in structure
- Not one of the complex structures common enough to get a single name to refer to it

Tend to be insanely long and complicated, since you're fully describing the molecule in question
