The LA cops are celebrating in their own way: with a little police brutality, as a treat.

oh is it over already?
full disclose: i spent like 20 minutes paying attention to baseball this whole season…i’ve hated the dodgers for decades

but after tonight i’ll probably tune in to my sf giants from pitchers & catchers and risk heartbreak again — if only to see how buster posey‘s ted lasso gambit play out
holy shit!

i hate the dodgers so fucking much
ooh, riiight…BASEBALL

i’ve been distracted
technically i didn’t tune in until the top of the 10th…
okay fine y’all got me to dig out my old am/fm radio, clear out the corroded batteries and tune in to in game 7 of the World Series in the bottom of the 9th inning

This has been such an Illuminating part of our current moment:

It’s revealed just how unwilling those with actual power are to even just ask tough questions, while highlighting how willing pajama-wearing suburbanites are to physically drive off guys armed with actual guns.
The assumption appears to be that ordinary voters will be cowed, obsequious, and unwilling to challenge autocracy, just like the billionaires, business leaders, media executives, and other leading institutions of civil society, which have decided that fighting back is “not worth the hassle.”
that social prohibition endures within a variable radius defined by the limits of my visual and auditory senses wherever i go

The US is the purple line bottoming out. Our economy may still roar, but we’re killing ourselves. Hoarding wealth, refusing to even ensure our kids have enough to eat. That line is an indictment. It reflects our warped values.
This graph never fails to be shocking: "The US has experienced the earliest and greatest slowdown in life expectancy improvements among higher-income countries, reported Eileen Crimmins. “We have horrible life expectancy—and it’s getting worse and worse”"

My perhaps controversial assessment is that when you share the propaganda of your enemies to call it out or to mock it… you’re still spreading their propaganda and maybe doing exactly what they hope you’ll do.

Can't overstate how fucked up it is that unraveling what is arguably the greatest achievement in the history of humanity is now a motivating issue of one of the two dominant parties in the U.S.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

Yes. One of the most powerful drivers of elite political discourse right now is wishful thinking: We don't want what's happening to be happening, so we make up a story in which it in less bad and more fixable than it is.

All very understandable but it is false and not helping!
I think we all know this but a lot of us desperately want to believe otherwise. We assume that most people are fundamentally decent and that we should be able to find common ground even if we disagree. It's shocking to find so many who genuinely have nothing but hate in their hearts.

New from 404 Media: you can't refuse to be scanned by ICE's new facial recognition app, according to internal DHS document I obtained. Photos captured by the app are stored for 15 years, including U.S. citizens. We've seen officers scanning faces w/ phones on streets
