Private Eye offers up an excellently scornful commentary on the relentless polling. It’s become ridiculous and has oversimplified our politics to dangerous levels of stupid and irresponsible.
SHOCK POLL:
NIGEL FARAGE WILL BE PM TOMORROW
IN an amazing poll conducted
by The Pointless Polling Company, it was revealed that voters' intentions
may well change over the next three and a half years and at present it's 100 percent impossible to guess what the next government might look like.
However, 99 percent of journalists
agree that it would be much more fun if we had an election tomorrow and everybody resigned and everything was chaos and Farage had a go at being PM, just for the hell of it, because it was so much fun when
Brexit happened and then the government kept falling every five minutes and we could write endless pieces about (cont. p94)

Food concerns everyone, and so do the rules that protect it. If the EU rolls back food and pesticide laws, we all lose: our health, nature, clean water.

We built these protections together over time. Now let’s defend them.

September 2025 was the third warmest on record

Persistently high land and sea surface temperatures reflect the continuing influence of greenhouse gas accumulation in the atmosphere 🌍⚒️🧪🌊

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

The numbers are clear. Most Britons now believe leaving Europe was a mistake. The next generation knows our future lies in cooperation, not isolation.

🔥 Etosha National Park Wildfire, Namibia Sept-Oct 2025

Over 34% of the park (~775,000 ha) burned, sparked near farms on the border.
500+ responders fought the blaze as wildlife and grazing lands were hit.

Odd seeing the annoyed comments from foresters to this innocuous post on ancient woodland restoration. It's not controversial to say that conifer plantations are nature depleted vs the ancient woodland they replaced. Restoration is even Scottish Forestry policy! www.forestry.gov.scot/planted-wood...

#AncientWoodlandRestoration in action! 🌲

Felling of one hectare of nature depleted conifer has begun at #PloraWood, Innerleithen.

These non-natives are being removed and replanted with mixed native broadleaf species that will support local biodiversity and increase resilience 🐿️ 🍄 🍂

We need constantly to remind ourselves that there's nothing normal or inevitable about it. It would be a catastrophe from which we would not recover for many years, in which terrible things are done, to minorities, to vulnerable people, to the rest of the living planet. We cannot let it happen.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵
